I ran across something this morning that just about turned my stomach, which generally is pretty difficult to do. After my morning swim I went over the the suit spinner gizmo to get the excess water out of the suit before bagging it. Stand behind this really large guy in a towel waiting for him to finish. He goes through like 3 cycles and I am thinking this is abit overkill. He then opens up the lid and takes out his gym shirt. The bastard was spinning his putrid sweat out, instead of pool water. I just turned around and walked away.
I now know why some people don’t use these. I know I never will again.
When I’m traveling I’ll rinse my run gear at times in the shower and then spin to dry them. That I don’t have to pack them damp. Don’t see the problem.
Guess that is possible, but my initial reaction was one of total disgust. Perhaps I jumped to a bad conclusion. However, I am still never using one of those again.
Personally I still don’t like the thought of spinning out dirty gym clothes, even if they have been rinsed out. Still seems like there would be some sort of funk in them. But to each their own I guess.
Agreed, but I don’t have many options when it comes to places to swim. However the spinner incident was just too over the top for me. Perhaps I just need to HTFU.
I no longer use the hair driers that are mounted to the wall at the gym or anywhere else. I once saw a guy squat down and use the the public hair drier to dry off his underside. He had that drier pretty damn close to his jewels and everything else.
I’ve had that happen once at my gym too. I politely mentioned how utterly disgusting his habit was to which he shrugged and went about his day. I then requested the service staff to spray some form of toxic shit in there to de-foul the thing imediatley.
The sad thing is after goint to all this care to keep the germs away, at work you have to shake hands with someone who just pee’d without washing his hands and scratched his balls.

Dang, in the gym showers/bathroom I touch hardly anything. I’d rather not use my hands when I pee so I don’t have to touch the soap dispenser.
Ever wonder about folks that use the restroom, wash their hands, then grab the DOOR HANDLE on the way out? Gross.
My personal technique is to not pee on myself.
Sorry, but you guys sound kind of wimpy. How do you deal with the portas at races? Do you ever go camping? Such worry warts around here. Life is messy.
My hydrotail has a roll of tp in one cage and a bottle of hand sanitizer in the other. I only signup for races with permanent facilities near the transition area. I have a small plastic trough containing dilute bleach to rinse my feet in after the swim. I wear rubber gloves for the whole race (theyr’e also more aero than cycling gloves). I don’t like the porta potties so I find and empty an aero drink bottle in the transition area and the refill it for them (looks like lemon-lime gatorade). If I find mid-race that I need a crap I DNF and drive home.
“Using the suit spinner is like wearing everyone’s swimsuit who used it before you” …
It also makes your suit wear out faster.
Seems like a no-brainer to me. Put it in a bag and hang it to dry when you get home.
Agreed! Just wash it in the shower with you and wring (sp?) it out manually. Hang dry it when able to.
I hang mine in the trunk of my car on a bar that spans the trunk under the rear deck. I have no idea what the bar’s intended use is, but it makes a great clothes line for my wet and sweaty stuff.
