Discovery Channel team “goes green” (cyclingnews.com)
The Discovery Channel Team today announced it is going “Green” by becoming carbon neutral beginning with the 2007 Tour de France (and retroactive to January 1). The team plans to reach its goal of carbon neutrality through a combination of energy savings, reduced carbon emissions and investments in carbon offsets.
The Disco squad of the 2007 Tour will ride with green-accented jerseys, shorts, helmets and cars. The goal is to educate fans on the risks associated with climate change, provide everyday solutions and inspire them to simply “ride a bike” as an alternative means of travel.
“Global warming has become a major concern worldwide and our sport and team is uniquely positioned to raise awareness about the importance of being more ‘green,’” said Team Manager Johan Bruyneel. “We realize that there have been others helping in this cause, like the US-based Kodak Gallery Team, and our hope is that we can also help lead the way forward.”

Anyone who thinks this is a nice jersey has no taste whatsoever.
It would seem that Discovery are ahead of themselves in the race for the Green jersey classification. I guess if you can’t win the Green jersey, why not wear something close to it.
All I have to say is that it won’t be like two years ago where three or four teams all had the same shade of blue kits!
i like it… it s pretty cool!! I want one now!!!

Yeah, the kit ain’t bad either. Too bad Disco won’t be sponsoring a team next year.
Curious, what kind of vehicles do Georg Hincapie and Levi Leipheimer drive?

I think I saw on a show called something like the Making of an Athlete that Georgie boy was driving an Audi wagon? Levi is a tiny guy so he probably drives a jacked-up F350
Bob Stapleton also does not strike me as a Toyota Prius driver and a “bring your own shopping bag to the super market” guy.

Green is good… don’t get me wrong… but there is a lot of hypocrisy… like John Travolta flying around the world speaking on global warming and green issues in his private jet!

Don’t know about Levi but I read an article in one of the Euro cycling mags that profiled George. At his home in NC he rolls in a red BMW 3 series coupe…couldn’t tell if it was a “regular” 3 or an M3. My guess is that is not his only vehicle.
Jersey is kinda cool, the shorts look awful.
Carbon neutral eh? The bikes are still carbon…
Way to busy, they should have killed the blue altogether and replaced with green if awareness is there intension.

Man, those kits are ugly.
I actually do think it is great when people step up to the plate and are willing to do something and to raise awareness. But my gripe is when it is only lip service.
So hopefully the Discovery team can prove my cynical mind wrong.

I go agree that it is probably just lip service, unfortunately. I guess that makes me cynical too. No surprise there.
It looks like they tried to go with a green jersey, ran out of ink and sewed whatever pieces they had made together with older blue Disco kit. It probably would be ok if it were all green but it looks very piecemeal with the green/blue/green/blue.
They just need to lose all the blue!!
