Disc cover in rear hitch

Usually I put my wheels in the trunk but am carpooling with a friend so there won’t be room. Should I worry about leaving my disc cover in the rear hitch along with 2 other bikes? Will my cover blow off?

Thanks.

I almost had my bike blown off the back of a rear mounted carrier on the highway once due to my disc catching the wind. I always take the disc off of it’s mounted at the back.

The one time I rode with the disc cover on the bike while in transit I was re-taping it at the race venue.

Unless it’s local, and I mean really local with now highways or main roads I never leave my disc on my bike on the hitch.

I usually won’t even leave an 808 on with the wind resistance. Figure something else out but you don’t want to lose your bike or have the wheel not aligned on a race day.

Thanks all. Will put on the cover when we get there.

Are you driving down the day of the race or is this a stay-at-a-hotel thing? If the latter, you could put the cover on when you get there and take it off before you leave. I’ve done that a few times.

I would put an old training wheel on my bike for travel, and keep the covered race wheel in the car. That way you don’t have to fuss with it when you get there.

I always drive with training wheels on, and put my racers on at the venue. One year, driving the to venue, my wife’s tire caught some road debris on the drive up, and it sliced a nice inch long gash in the tire. Lesson learned.

I leave it on and drive with it all the time and never had a problem.

What about a disk on a roof rack? Never done it. Been scared to.

Besides the wind on the disk or deep wheel is the tail light still visible and are you setting yourself up for a ticket or accident?
