I love my coach and everything, but a lot of the time I don’t agree with what he tells me to do. He tells me to do 5 hours and it’s BASE SEASON! I’m reasy to do more and I don’t know why he won’t let me. I just came off of injury a couple months ago, but I’m ready to step it up. I always do more than what he tells me and he gets mad. I don’t know what to do. I want, no NEED, to do more, but he won’t let me. What to do?? He’s very experienced, but I don’t agree with his coaching sometimes.
you just came off injury
take it easy

Uhm…then what are you paying him for? You don’t agree with him, you do your own thing and add stuff regardless of what he is giving you.
Oh, and I’m sure he’s just as frustrated with you as you are with him. However, he’s not paying you to ignore your advice.
John
Dude, the only reason to pay a coach is because his advice is better than what you would do on your own.
Either fire him, save your money and train yourself or follow his advice.
Paying him money and doing your own thing? Er uh?

hmmmmmm. have you read your own post?
you’re 15, work on intensity, form, and speed. Distances and volume are less important. It’s also super important at your age to be well rounded. Grades, friends and other responsibilities. Have fun.
X2 for what it is worth, when I stop listening to my coach is when injuries usually creep in…
Exactly what I would do

You don’t NEED to do more. Either listen to your coach or don’t work with him anymore. You are begging for more injury and overtraining. He has more experience and you should listen to him. That’s why you hire him.

At 15, I would imagine that it is the parents paying for it. I wonder what their take on it would be… :)~

Agree with all the advise so far… keep in mind in article after article and interview after interview, the top pros and coaches always say the three biggest mistakes people make are not building a base, going too hard on the slow workouts, and going too slow on the fast workouts.
I finished my first IM in November. My workouts this week have started with 5 hours with the first bike workout being a half hour 1 legged drills on the trainer in zone 1. I want to go ride 3 hours flat out! Listen to your coach if you have specific goals later in the season.

My parents’ response would be to get a job and pay for it myself. Then, see if you are willing to listen to the coach.
You should talk to your girlfriend about this. If you had one.
A 5 hour workout doesn’t make you tired? You might be doing it wrong.
This has already been said, but I will sum it up in a different way for you. Excuse me being direct, but you asked for it.
You either shut up and follow your coaches advice and don’t second guess him or her and start excersizing discipline and maturity.
If you don’t want to follow what you are told, than self coach and admit that you are not caochable. No coach will ever be good to you with that attitude.
Once again my apology for this tone. All this being said, I self coach in part due to me not being coachable. This way I hold myself accountable and responsible for everything. Can’t blame anyone else.
Did you mean to send this reply to me rather than the OP? If so, I must not have been very clear in my writing!
To the OP:
You really have three choices here.
- Talk with your coach to see if you can resolve your differences. This is really the best option, but if all you are going to say is “I’m so extreme, I need to do extreme training!!!11!!!eleven!!” the conversation isn’t going to go very well. If you’re concerned that you aren’t doing enough, say so! There’s nothing a coach likes to hear more than “I think I can handle more”.
- Just do what you’re told.
- Find a new coach.
Remember the goal of training is not to work as much as possible, it’s to get as fast as possible.
Why are you taking this up with us? Is a discussion to have with your coach.
Why do you “need” to do more?
