I am doing a recon this weekend to the Dipsea race course, starting in Mill Valley.
The race website has a very crude map and description of the course. However, I’m having trouble matching it up with my maps of the area.
Anyone happen to have a turn-by-turn description of how to navigate this course?
Thanks!
THere are two or three sections where the route you choose is your choice. so it might be hard to matchit up on the maps, if I remember right, it cruises right past the lookout tower on top of the peak.
The Dipsea has certain sections that are only open on race day. Suicide for example is considered off trail on any day but race day and you can get a ticket for going down it.
THe only way to recon Dipsea it with someone who has run the course many times and knows all the shortcuts…yes shortcuts are allowed in the race and are part of the Dipsea Lore.
I’d help you out but I’m having a double root canal this weekend and then I’m going shoe shopping wioth my wife and then I’m picking out soft furnishings and then I’m cleaning out the lint trap in the dryer.
I just love Dipsea.
Thanks, guys. I am actually (tentatively) planning on doing the DOUBLE Dipsea this year. Apparently the rules about shortcuts might be different than for the regular Dipsea race? It does not much matter to me, as I do not expect to be competitive in the race. It is an excuse to do some hill training. Anyway, I googled and found a very detailed, turn-by-turn description of how to navigate the “main” route, from Mill Valley. I’ll bring my maps with me and see how it goes. Thanks!
