Dimpled water bottles..?!?

Well not quite the Reynolds number for dimpled golf ball and a smooth golf ball is actually exactly the same there is no dependence on dimples. The initial Velocity and acceleration of the golf ball with dimples and with out dimples is the same – as the golfer strikes the ball with the same force F=ma. Because the dimples reduce low pressure region in the rear of the ball – that is why the ball decelerates slower and it flies farther.

Now For the spin part – the back-spin on the ball (ball rotating towards the golfer creates lift and that is observed from Bernoulli¡¦s equation D0+P0=D1+P1. Where P is static pressure and D is dynamic pressure. Because of the back-spin on the ball the static pressure on the bottom of the ball increases (acting up) and it deceases on the top (acting down) resulting in a net positive fore called Lift. Eventually because of drag forces the balls rotations (spinning) slow down. The Lift force becomes smaller then the force of gravity and the ball falls down.

Now for flying in a ¡§desired¡¨ location. The reason why I said ¡§desired¡¨ is because this is dependent of how the ball is struck and which way it spins it will determine which way the ball will travel and how far

In terms of inertia – which means that moving or a stationary object wants to remain in a sate that is in. A spinning ball will have a higher total inertia then one which is not spinning, and therefore a spinning ball is less susceptible to in changing its path due to external forces for example to a wind…

Now I have never played golf but since we talked about golf so much I think I will have to start playing J

I think I am becoming a geek! HELP!
