According to everything I’ve read here on ST I should just go flying over my handlebars. However, in the event that I am able to ride with this setup, at what PSI would you recommend that I run the Vittoria Corsa CX? I plan on running the Tufo at 180. Critique away.
I bet you can pump that baby up to 200psi.
Thanks for the helpful advice.
LOL! Oh where to start - well, I guess these 2 tires cancel each other out (one being very good, the other …)
Assuming 700 x 23 for the Vittoria, run no more than 9 bar (135 psi at sea level and “normal” temps - not IM Lou temps) assuming you weigh less than 175 lbs?
Thanks for the helpful advice.
No problem. I’ve run a TUFO in the front and the great thing about it is that when down in the aerobars you can actually hear the noise the tire makes when rolling on the surface of the road. And that noise comes from the hysteresis losses ![]()
Thanks. I’m looking forward to my front tire getting a little more wear so I can justify replacing it.
The Vittoria? To 180psi?
Gator…run it at the recommended pressure. That way when the Tufo is airborn you’ll have one wheel on the ground.
Maybe that’s the secret to this rolling resitence, thing. Just run a Tufo on the front, it’s only on the ground 30/40% of your ride when it’s at 200psi and you cut rolling resistance by a third. Your rear wheel will stay in contact with the road because its a nice tire pumped up to 120psi or so. I’ll check my math a little later. But that’s the ballpark I think we’re playing in.
You’ve figured it out!
No, the tufo at 180. Here’s the thing, My fastest bike splits have been when I’ve run the Tufos super high. So, now that I have a new rear tire, I’m at a total loss.

Vs. running them at 120? Or running other tires at other pressures?
Vs. running them at 130.
Run 'em high then. You don’t want to second guess your tire pressure after the race.
What race are you doing?
I’m preparing to spank your ass at accenture—that is assuming I’m able to sabotage your bike as I have planned.
The Tufo is a little different than “normal” tires and it actually does do better (a relative term) pumped up crazy high like that. Has to do with the rock hard casing. A Tufo at 180 psi is “equivalent” to a ProRace, Veloflex, Corsa et. al at 8-9 bar as far as comparable tire design Crr. BUT - it is still slower and then rides like sh$%. Forget the fact that the cloth/rim interface sucks even if glued properly.

It probably won’t take much. I’ve raced poorly this year.
To self: “Think positive, Dan. Think positive.”
And please don’t sabotage the bike. It’s been to the shop enough this year! Who wants a Guru?
I’m assuming you’re doing the EAG wave. I looked up to see how many people are doing it and my count came to 200+. Any idea if they’ll run a few waves?
200? Is that men and women? I hope there’s waves, there isn’t a lot of room for the swim. Are you in that wave as well?
I did the EAG so I could watch the pro race, hopefully it works out.
Good luck. I’ll be hanging out at the FF tent before my wave start if you want to hang out.
Yeah, I’m doing it. I signed up when I planned on training a lot this summer. Things didn’t quite go that way. Anyhow, I figure I’d rather just do it and get my ass handed to me rather than change my registration. Yeah, I think there were like 140 dudes and 75 women. Hopefully, they do two male waves and 1 female wave. Where’s the FF tent set up? I’ll come by and say hello.
200…that draft pack is going to be a joke…
I hope we all start at once, since it wont matter for the FOP swimmers. The rest of you can just punch each other all day long ![]()
We’ll see how fast that front pack gets away when all 140 of us idiots think we’re FOP swimmers… :-).
I’ve never done a drafting race before. Should be fun.
FF tent by the finish line.
