Difference between cleat wedges vs shoe wedges

Hi all,

I’ve been battling a foot pain related issue while cycling where I get pain along the outside edge of my right foot just below the fifth meta-tarsal head. I’m flat-footed and have about 7-8 degrees of varus. So, I definitely know that I likely have a varus cant to my pedal stroke. I’ve tried using cleat wedges in the past (up to 3 wedges) and didn’t really notice a difference. Is there a big difference between using an “in the shoe wedge” versus a cleat wedge? Will both correct the same problem or are there slight differences between the two?

Yes, there is a difference. Both “attempt” to correct for forefoot varus (a common issue) and the associated issues from it. The internal shoe wedges work better (for lack of a better term) for your type of complaint. The external cleat wedges work best for knee issues (i.e. diving towards the top tube).

I have to use 5 outside wedges on my right and 4 outside on my left. Tried the inside ones and my shoe didn’t fit the same way and toes were crowded. PC Andrew helped me out with my feet
