Thinking of renting it and wanted opinions.
Yes. Gerard Butler was in it. What’s not to like? ![]()
best action movie ever was aliens
300 may be the 2nd best ever
haha
.
The only thing you’ll regret is not seeing it on the big screen
.
funny you say that because this will be the “debut” movie on my 61 inch widescreen and its 2 - 12" subwoofers
.
I found it very entertaining and moving. I am inspired by stories of those who fight on even with the knowledge that they have zero chance of winning. For some reason, it reminds me of triathlon.
in that case, I think you will enjoy it!
Awesome… this from a GIRL… and one who was expecting to watch it just because men said to. AWESOME.
Sweeeet!!!
For $7 it was worth seeing the cinemaphotography. I can’t imagine it’s anything close on DVD (unless you have an awesome home theater setup).
The story was not all that great, the characters reflected it’s graphic novel roots, and after the 1,386 spear lunge, the move runs its course (but still cool).
But it was well worth the money spent, although not one of the greatest movies ever.
I watched it last night at a friend’s house. He recently bought a huge flat screen with 1080p (yes p). He also purchased a PS3, because it has cool games and plays blue ray discs.
HOLY SHIT!!! 300 in 1080p on a blue ray disc is amazing! It was a better picture than I have ever seen in any theater, ever! Not to mention the movie was really cool.
This was reviewed/discussed before. Here is the link.

My 2 cents was that it is a great action flick. Saw it in the theater and planning on buying it on DVD. On a side note it showed up on some list (something like top ten movies that were saved by being historically inacurate). Basically it made a list of movies that were good, but had they been historically inaccurate they would have sucked.
Found that link, ok it was 11 movies.

Don’t rent it. Save your money and go buy the book ‘The Gates of Fire’ by Steven Pressfield.
With that being said, I just watched it the other night and I really wanted to like the movie, but I was bored with it halfway through.
Outstanding flick - you won’t regret it. And perfect debut flick for your new set-up…
All style and absolutely no substance. It looked pretty but the rest of it was quite shit and I am a huge fan of greek myth, tragedy and epic poetry etc. I’d prefer to see Seneca’s “Thyestes” done as a movie if I wanted gore, bloodshed etc. Eating your kids for dinner unknowingly!!! (or something along those lines…) Awesome!!!
" All style and absolutely no substance."
I don’t agree that there was no substance, but the style was definitely the high point and focus of the movie. That’s not a criticism, though - cinema is a visual medium, and I think that what the director pulled off style-wise only required a “framework” story.
“Gates of Fire” is a must for anyone remotely interested in the real story. Great descriptions about how the fighting and training really happened.
