Did someone die at IMC this year?

Just heard from a friend who said that a spectator got hit by a cyclist during the race and was killed. Is this some horrible rumor, or is it true?

No, that was at Timberman.

Thanks for clearing that up. It’s funny how people outside of triathlon (Canadians at least) think there are only 2 Ironman events in the world - Penticton and Hawaii

He is in intensive care, but as of this morning still alive: http://www.pentictonwesternnews.com…=1053647&more=0.

Nice, you place a link on ST that has a trojan horse in it. Thanks!

No, that was at Timberman.

Seriously?

My mom knows there is a couple others as well

I’m pretty certain that no one was killed at Timberman. As I heard it, a pro collided with a police officer at an intersection. The officer was pretty seriously hurt, but the collision was not fatal. I suspect KJ will soon add a post to clarify the situation.

I heard that the person in question was motionless and left lying on the ground without assistance. Maybe his health insurance expired?

Hmmm. Shouldn’t you be posting this stuff under your SAC user name?

Nah, Slowman blocked that name. But I am considering to create a new one, it’s going to be called “Little Shit”.

You know, I was going to respond with:

“I died when I missed breaking 10hrs by 16secs at IMC… Does that count???” but felt it was probably unnecessary given the serious nature of the thread. But then I read Paulo’s response…

In all seriousness, I’m pretty certain nobody died at IMC. Someone got hit by a car (Chris Espesito) but he’s fine and most of know that already.

Thanks, Chris

With the emphasis on “little”.

Really? Who did you hear that from, Paulo? Is this an attempt at “humor”? I was at Timberman and did not hear anything about a death.

“I heard that the person in question was motionless and left lying on the ground without assistance.”

I heard that. You heard something else. My, oh my, what to do…

I did not hear anything. I am a sponsor of that race (Timberman). I did not compete but my wife and friend did did. I read the thread about a death at Ironman Canada with a somber mind-set. I was somewhat shocked to see someone joking about deaths/injuries in the thread, that’s all, Paulo.

That’s because apparently you’re posting sober today.

Hmmm, I guess you have been drinking Paulo. Regardless, this is not a thread to make light or jokes or people killed/injured vounteering or racing at any Triathlon.

“Trailing in the early stages of the bike leg, young Australian Paul Ambrose lost control around a road twist and crashed into a police officer.”, From Inside Tri.

Peace out!

I thought you said that you didn’t hear of anything?

Anyway, the joke was because I am tired of the little cover-up attempts everytime someone dies in a triathlon.

I agree with the rumor mill. Far as I know there was one biking accident which happened 50 feet in front of me about the 20 mile mark. The biker was involed in a single crash. I asked him if he needed medical help and he said “Yes”. I proceeded to the next intersection & told the young girl that there was a cyclist who went down & was injured. She radioed for help. Nice that there was communication like this provided at all intersections during this race.
As far as the other accident with a police officer…Spencer Smith told me that he had to ver off down into a grassy area to prevent getting involed in that accident.
