Or is just something up with the timing and tracking? There’s almost 50 people showing dns just for the male 25-29.
Said at pre-race dinner that 2404 signed in. Not sure how many registered or traveled and then didn’t start at the last minute for some reason.
One of the guys driving the SAG wagon said 3000 people and the racks were numbered that high, but the last rack only had a handful of bikes on one end and the other end was pretty empty. I saw bikes in the 2800 range.

In 2007, the first year of the race, about 2100 athletes picked up their packets but only something like 1600 started race morning. People were surprised and flustered that wetsuits would not be allowed plus the river had a significant current flowing that year.

Thats amazing… I told my gf how much the race cost and she about had a stroke, thats with knowing how much my p4 costs. She couldn’t believe people would skip it, minus the obvious family emergency/injury reason.
I wonder if the guy having a heart attack and being pulled out of the water in front of people still waiting to start had an impact on the number of people actually racing? I know it might give me pause, and I have finished two IM with a very strong swimming background.
I didn’t see anyone get out of line or leave the swim start area after that. I was standing by the bathrooms/tent area waiting to get in line when then end of the line got up to the front of the line.
I was wondering the same thing.
Anyone else catch the nice sand bar at the far end of the island before the turn around? I was swimming, he was walking…interesting.

There was a hurricane affecting travel for like 75 million people on the east coast for those of you who have been under a rock this week
.
You had to be there by Thursday - I do not think that was the reason.
