Last night the city council in Pasadena was going to take up the issue of pelotons around the Rose Bowl http://www.cityofpasadena.net/councilagendas/2007%20agendas/Aug_06_07/9A2.pdf.
Does anyone know if it passed?

banning pelotons would make the final stage of next year’s tour of california interesting…
From the link: In addition, any Resolution applying the provision to a particular street may provide for suspension of the prohibition and the covering of the signs by the City Department of Transportation as a part of a special event or use for which a valid permit or license agreement is in force and effect. Therefore, for example, no further action of City Council would be required for the Tour de California or for any special activity or use which might be proposed for peloton activity which is properly regulated and permitted.
Is it me, or why don’t they just sit there and ticket cyclists who cross over the line into oncoming traffic? The issue doesn’t seem to be the “peleton” (I now deem it necessary to do the obligatory finger quotation sign every time I say “peleton”…there…I did it again), but their encroachment into oncoming traffic and pedestrian traffic.
Of course, making sure pedestrians are walking on the sidewalks might actually take enforcement too
(I’ve ridden up there on Saturday mornings, and cyclists are usually all going the same clockwise direction. It’s everyone else who is all over the place)
