Diagnose my knee pain

I have never had any knee troubles until recently. The pain is located just under the outside portion of my knee cap. I feel it when I walk (and run). It never swelled and it does not hurt to touch. The pain feels like stabbing in one area at one precise movement (lifting in the upward direction). I should also add that sometimes I’m able to walk and run without pain but it never feels totally stable.

Any help? I’m new to knee injuries. I’m not sure where to go with this. I have iced, bought a compression knee brace at the drugstore and rested a week but am having no luck getting rid of this.

See a doctor/physio. I wouldn’t trust any anonymous comments from a tri board.

That said, I vote ITB!

Probably runner’s knee (chondromalacia). Go see a doctor. They will probably prescribe PT which worked well for me. Don’t let it drag on because it won’t get better.

IT band. PT, no running for a long time. I was down for over 8 weeks this winter.

Get a foam roller and loosen that thing up.

+1 on the foam roller. Best $40 I ever spent.

Sounds like IT band to me. I am actually fighting this right now. It doesn’t bug me when I ride, but when I run… HOLY $%#@! It hurts. I have been doing tons of therapy to get it down, and it is starting to calm down a bit. I would check with a doctor though. And I’m another believer of the foam roll.

From a guy with 2 rebuilt knees: GO SEE A DOC

Regardless of what it is the risk of trying to figure it out on a forum vs. working the problem with a good orthopod is huge. FWIW, in my experience knee problems just don’t go away, they are like a freakin’ butt rash!

knucklehead. most of these posters didn’t even sleep in a holiday inn express. Are you really looking for a board to diagnose your injury? Good lord think man!
