I have last year’s Ultegra Di2 and wanted to hear from any new version Di2 owners about the new 3 or 5 port junction box and the ability to customize the shifting through the firmware update. It will run about $180 - $220 in parts and I haven’t asked the shop about the firmware update charge. Is it worth the additional money to upgrade? I’m mostly intrigued with the one touch rapid shift.

You can upgrade to the multi shift function without the new junction boxes. You just need to find a shop that has a PCE-1 pc tool. It plugs into any standard etube port and will update firmware / troubleshoot the components.
Are you using a road set up? The only reason to upgrade on a road setup is if you have internal routing and want to use the internal battery.
The benefit to upgrading a Tri set up would be using the internal battery and adding the Tri shift brake levers to your system.

It is a very easy process,takes about 10min.
I have 10spd Di2 and set my shifter to do 3 gears holding the shifter.I think the options were 2 gears,3 gears or all.
While you are connected you can get updates.
