6 returns for TDs this year for a new NFL record. That Field Goal return from earlier this year was awesome, and he’s now had 2 tonight. Awesome stuff.
I don’t understand why they kept kicking to him. Does the St. Louis kicker not have enough leg to put it deep?
Devin was the deep man on both kick returns, so they were kicked deep. The only alternatives would have been onside kick, short kick which would’ve given Bears ball at 35 or so, or kick out of bounds which is now 1 and 10 at 40. He is the only guy back for punts so only decisions are to kick to him or out of bounds. Or, I suppose you can do what STL punter (who had a nice game)did, get inhuman hanf time and make him fair catch it.
It didn’t seem that deep. Looked like he was catching it around the 5-10yd lines, not deep in the end zone.
Oh, I see what you were saying. I guess the kicker couldn’t do that.
at the 5 yard line is about par for the course among NFL kickers. They moved the kickoff point back a few years back, so there would be more returns. Plus with the game in a dome, there was no tailwind.
Eric
impressive.
i credit him and the blockers in front of him. but special teams touchdowns are huge, they can be real backbreakers.
the returns also take the ball out of the hands of the biggest threat to the bears… Rex Grossman!
who, i should add, had a very good game last night and i wish him all the best. but those last games were brutal.
but those last games were brutal
Only if you call a 1.3 QBRAT brutal. =)
Last night his QBRAT was 114, what kind of INCREASE is that?!?!
It’s the kind of increase you get from playing one of the worst defenses in the NFL. The only worse rush defense is the Colts. Don’t need to make any risky passes when you play a run defense like that.
ZERO interceptions. Really, that’s all Bears’ fans ask for. Just don’t lose the game for us. The defense, special teams, and running game will win it (most of the time).
I’m so tired of anyone that makes dumb passes compared to “Favre” or being called “Farvel;ike”. Brett Favre is the ONLY 3-time MVP in the league, and di it with receivers that were of second shelf quality. Rex Grossman or any other so-called “gunslinger” ain’t even close. Being stupid doesn’t make one a “gunslinger”. Man, I really do hate the sports media.
Man, I really do hate the sports media.
My favorite is how they talk about 40 times and “world class speed”.
I really hate the word "gunslinger" wneh used to describe QBs who try to force balls into triple coverage (see Frye, Charlie).
Man, I really do hate the sports media.
I agree but would have rephrased “Man, I really do strongly dislike the media.”

I will change my statement …
Old: Man, I really do hate the sports media.
New: Man, I really do hate what the sports media says, and some of the ways they act.
I don’t hate the sports media as people, and would likely help them if they were in need. But, I strongly don’t like how some of them go about their business, say crazy things just because it’s easier than being creative and doing some laborous research, and the poor attitude many of them have for various reasons.
good call on the blockers. bears have excellent STeams across the board and (I remember reading) are one of the few teams in the NFL that really really stresses STeams in practice. A lot of teams fit in ST at the end or wherever (just like we did in HS) and the players on them are the fringe players. The bears do a lot more ST in practice as a primary practice point, not filled in at the end, and they have a lot of guys on them who actually start or get serious PT rest of game. eg. Todd Johnson - massive hitter - kept his ST spot even when he moved to starting S. Also, Ayandabejo is a freaking ST monster. Did anyone else see the endzone view of one of the kickoffs last week from behind the kicking bears where Ayanbadejo had the sprint spot next to the kicker so the camera followed him all the way downfield. He is a huge man and has phenomenal speed getting downfield. may get his 3rd or 4th pro bowl this year as ST player. Like Kruetz, seems universally admired by peers for his talent, though most of the talent of a C or ST guy is beyond the perception of a casual fan.
I thought Joe T and Tony K were going to ask to have Urlacher’s baby they were fawning on him so much Mon. Hope not, they’ll have to arrange custody transfers at the toll booth like for his other kid.

We could only be so lucky if this was limited to the sports media. Unfortuntely this happens in sports, regular, politics…maybe even the LR…nah everyone does their research here and NEVER say’s crazy stuff.

is it just me, or is tony kornheiser lost without that PTI bell?
i just want to yell out, dude: CHANGE THE TOPIC from time to time.
He just gets on something and doesn’t let it go for the full three hours. unless, of course, it’s to interrupt the broadcast with a fantasy update on HIS fantasy team. the generic fantasy updates are bad enough, the personal ones… ugh…
