Developing a nutrition class for kids

I was wondering if some of you could give me some advice about trying to teach kids. I’m helping to put together a presentation for a group of 3rd-5th graders to teach them a bit about nutrition and healthy eating.

Here’s the rub: In May, I’ll graduate w/ a degree in nutrition, but have no experience with kids this age. What should I expect from them? What should they be able to get out of it. The demographic most of them are from is relatively poor. It’s a small elementary school in rural appalachia where most of the kids are on free school lunches. In developing this, I want to help them get the most out of this as possible, as they will hopefully be able to use the information and influence their families to be healthier as well. I have several ideas of my own, but was wondering if ya’ll had any suggestions.

Phil you should contact Mary Honeyman she is a teacher at the school I work at. I work for Tom Demerly at Bikesport as well as being a school teacher. Mary is our Health teacher, and she has some great materials and the like, I am sure she will shed some light on your situation. Be sure to tell her you know Mark T. Her Email is mahoneyman@bloomfield.org

Just feed them gels with caffiene…That will keep them moving!
