I got my latest issue of Triathlon Magazine Canada and was pleasantly surprised to see Dev as the age group profile!
As usual he was far too modest and very thankful for all his blessings in life but it was great to see the guy get some national exposure and recognition!
Bizzy, is there a link so that we can all read about Dev. He always seems so hard working, gung-ho, happy, and organized. Is this true? or does he have a good assistant? publicist?
**They have triathlons in Canada? What are the ski, bike run ? **
Indeed we do and if you have noticed we take home our fair share of podium and race hardware at all levels in this sport. Not bad for a country that is buried in snow for half the year!
That is what makes us stronger. The athletes come from the east and harden themselves in the snow running with the Eskimo’s, elk, polar bears and wolves then move west once they are hardened and numb to the pain and train in the great weather of Victoria. It is hard work for us Canadians to catch our dinner when it is 40 below, white out and you are in your toque, furs and running shoes. This is what makes us strong.
Years ago, I recall going down to California to train for a week. It was nice to get away from the ice and snow of Toronto. Depsite the winter conditions, I had built up a great base of run miles. I met a guy for a run in So Cal who was a friend of a friend. He said that it was great to get out running again after not running for a week . . . . because it had been raining!!!
Aside from being able to read fast and synthesize information really quickly and striving to perpetually leave my car in the driveway and maximize every possible moment of transportation on a bike, I do have one of the best assistants around…that would be my wife :-).
If I’d just waste a bit less time on ST, I’d get more done, but aside from ST and Coffee I am relatively speaking “a good boy”.
Seriously though, when it comes to time management, I have to thank my training at the Royal Military College from 1983-88, where the guy who played lots of sports, had cosmetic bulk, partied hard, got severely hung over weekly, and got the highest possible marks in Engineering programs for the least amount of study time was hailed as a hero.
I was never that guy, but I had a few really good mentors to look up to and they really helped me hone/optimize time management skills. If you have kids and want to pay for zero tuition and arm them for some seriously good life skills, this is the place to do an undergrad degree!
I guess I better go get a copy…not sure if my subscription has run out or not as I am currently a USAT member, and have not yet renewed my OAT membership (with which comes a free subscription to Triathlete Magazine Canada) :-). OK, OK, I better pay up my OAT dues because if I am not an OAT member, I cannot nominate Brian Keast for Ontario Long Course athlete of the year…and he keeps missing getting nominated every year because the awards are handed out before he wins 45-49 in Kona and by the next year, they forget that he won in Kona!

Congrats Dev. I know you are too humble to admit it, however, there aren’t too many people in this sport that do as much for others as you do. Well deserved.
So thanks from this poser.
Did they not tell you that Julian when you put in your transfer over here. You have to stay in the east for at least 2 years before being allowed to move to the west. You can not just move to the west right away. Maybe you get some British exemption from the Monarch or something to bypass that. If you do you are lucky. Lucky for my my Grandfather was born in Victoria so I get the grandfather clause. It is nice as I will never live in the east but for some reason my brother decided to go east. Maybe he is just a bit crazy.
