A co-worker of mine from Detroit sent this to me. If this is really as bad as it seems, would it be possible that the city just fully collapses?

Detroit government, the Mayor, the City Council, the School Board are all such a joke and embarrassment. It’s truly sad to watch.
I can’t find anything on YouTube yet. I did find one of Conyer’s previous outbreaks, was wondering why that name sounds familiar.
I’m just having a hard time believing things like “Conyers reminded him, “Those workers look like you; they don’t look like me.”” and “*Desperate, he invoked President Barack Obama’s message of unity and was angrily warned, “Don’t yousay *his name here.”” would be so overtly stated and no one does anything.
Then again apparently she got voted in as city council president after her other “displays” so maybe that is just accepted by the constituents in Detroit.
Remind me to NEVER go to Detroit.

I was wondering why a public official would be allowed to get away with something like that. If it were Mayor Daley than everyone from Father Flager to Al Sharpton would be up in arms calling for him to step down. But after a little thought I realized that no one really cares that much because in the end there will be no one any more suitable to fill the void if this bigoted nut job were to step down.
The co-worker that sent this to me stated at the time that he thought the members of the city council were permitted to live outside of the city.
There is absolutely no accountability for the Detroit City Council. They are all at-large council members. They do not represent specific districts in the city. Conyers is a racist and an idiot. She is totally unstable. She gets elected solely by her husbands name.
Detroit is going to be in a world of hurt when this Cobo deal falls through. Hopefully the Unions will get involved soon and influence 3 of the members to change their votes. Detroit can’t afford to not have this deal. It is a $500 million swing for a city that has junk bond status.

I’m just wondering if there are any actual “White’s rights” groups. If indeed this was actually stated and occurred as the article portrayed it, the reason I was looking for a video of the occurrence, it’s out and out open violation of pretty much every racist law out there. If for no other reason than basically stating “No we aren’t doing it because that will give jobs to white people”. It’s wasn’t implied it was directly stated.

I haven’t watched this yet, but as somebody who grew up in the Detroit area with Coleman Young as mayor, all I can say is it sounds like nothing has changed.

BTW - Monica is currently at the center of a major bribery investigation and may very well be indicted soon.
As for the “never go to Detroit” comment. Its kind of understandable based on the distorted image of “Detroit” that gets put out. But you need to remember that the metropolitan area, what anywhere else would be considered “the city” is over 4 milllion people. The actual city of Detroit is only 800,000. Most of us are not that bad, really.

I’ve been to Detroit several times as an adult and spent 3 years of my early child hood in Pontiac.
My comment was not directed at the people of Detroit in general, but what appears to be rather “Accepted” racism of the leadership. I get the impression that if I were pulled over in Detroit I might be treated like a minority in the south in the 60’s. Not sure I want to put myself in that position

I like how Barbara Rose Collins came in in a wheelchair and then proceeded to call for a Constitutional Convention in the City of Detroit so that they can “do battle with the…uh…non-residents.” This outlandish statement was only bested as she wheeled out of the room (leading the charge) singing Onward Christian Soldiers. This is so ridiculous that I can barely type it because I am laughing so hard.
You know what? Fuck Detroit. Build a freaking wall at 8 mile and let those fuckers rot. We’ll let anyone out that wants to come back to the world of common sense so long as they agree to never venture back into that place.

I was born a block away from old Tiger Stadium and lived in Southwest Detroit until I went into the military at age 17. My father, who was a GM electrician and then an electrical engineer there, has been a Detroit city employee since 1991. He didn’t move out of the city until 2003, when residency rules for public employees were changed and he was allowed to escape.
We just sit and watch in stunned amazement at how low the city’s sunk since the Kilpatrick scandal and the rise to power in the city council of a woman (Monica Conyers) who’s reliably reported to have pulled a gun on a member of city government at a town meeting (she later denied it) and at one time loudly called the then-head of the city council (Ken Cockrel, Jr.) “Shrek” while in public session. She’s also been video and audiotaped in screaming matches with other members of the city council and the mayor’s office, and was shown up in a famous YouTube video by a grade-schooler, who apparently knows more than she does about a lot of things. Meanwhile, her husband (who’s my congressional representative here in the Downriver area) continues to proudly carry his “I’m a member of the moonbat fringe Left” card in seeking to try former-president Bush and others for assorted “war crimes” and “cultural genocide,” among other issues.
Monica Conyers is aided and abetted by Barbara Rose Collins, the tiara-wearing septuagenarian who just can’t seem to see that there’s not some massive white conspiracy on the part of the state and the three counties who’ll make up a regional authority that’ll be charged with overseeing the rehabilitation and upkeep of the aging Detroit Civic Center (Cobo Hall). But perhaps what’s keeping her and Conyers and others like them in power is this mass race-mongering appeal to the not-so-swift general population of Detroit, most of whom stayed home in the recent mayoral run-off, in which the son of former longtime mayor Coleman Young ran, along with an assortment of others jockeying for a place at the head of the city table. Current interim mayor Ken Cockrel and Detroit businessman and former NBA great Dave Bing finished in the top two and are now scheduled to contest against each other in a general election later this year, though why anyone would seek the job is beyond me. Being third assistant monkey shit cleaner at the zoo probably would be a more fulfilling job at this point, I’d say.
My wife, who’s spent time in Somalia (as have I) likes to call Detroit “The Mogadishu of North America.” I argue with her and tell her that that’s not technically correct because Detroit doesn’t have any goats running around in the streets. If it did, then there’d be a perfect union between the two. What a sad, pathetic end to a once-proud metropolis that could at one time lay credible claim to the title “Engine of Democracy.”

My favorite in this latest episode was the rousing rendition of Onward Christian Soldiers. Barbara Rose Collins can’t carry a tune. I can’t figure out why her cohort, Martha Reeves, didn’t jump in to help her out.
I think that I have finally figured this out. Clearly nothing that the City Council has done is logical. They have the opportunity to swing their budget almost $500 million and they are basically passing on it. Weird considering the budget deficit they face. Cobo is hardly usable anymore because it is outdated and needs mandatory safety upgrades. The Auto Show is going to go somewhere else, and then what will happen to Cobo? Maybe the Detroit Marathon can pay a little more for their annual expo. EGADS.
The only thing that makes sense to me is that John Conyers must have told Monica that he thinks he can get her an audience with President Obama. If she plays it right, maybe Obama can make L.Brookes see reason. It is the only thing that makes sense to me. She has placed her hope in a Presidential miracle. I doubt it will happen.
