OK time to be a chick for a second…what to wear for Ironman. I don’t change for the day, wear the same thing from swim to run.
DeSoto Liftfoil onepiece.
benefits: one piece for swim and wear for bike and run. Very thin felt pad for run. VERY comfortable.
cons: website says buoyant padding for swim but really it’s just a thin piece of felt. don’t see the benefit here at all. A bit misleading via website.
-or-
DeSoto Riveria Forza short.
benefits: padding is more buoyant for swim. low cut. Very comfortable fit.
cons: thicker pad for ironman run. Issue?? Anyone worn them in a 26.2?
What race…Temperature would be my deciding factor.
Warm, Forza short
Cooler, Litfoil
Ironman Louisville. Non Wetsuit Swim. Perfect weather predicted - 74 degree high.
I wore a Forza Trisuit (not the ITU one) for Vineman and I swear I nearly forgot I had the thing on. At least until I had to go pee.
Were I to chose again at that distance the Forza trishorts are (as everyone else exclaims) truly fantastic. Great on the bike and run. They dont look like they have decent compression but do. I’d stack my shelves with these if I could. Just not crazy about the colour selections for the Forza Trijerseys. The Carrera Trijerseys have better colours IMHO.
For long days, I’m a huge advocate of the 400 milers. One of the largest pads I’ve ever stuffed between my legs without the explicit goal of impressing my wife. Yet, they fit unbelievably well, and are incredibly flexible on and off the bike. The pad almost seems to disappear on the run … just don’t ask where it goes.
I’ve used both and I’d say go with the DeSoto Riveria Forza tri short for an Ironman. I’ve used the Liftfoil for a 70.3 w/ no problems, but I’d think you would want to go w/ comfort for the IM. The Riveria Forza tri short is the most comfortable tri short on the market.

So the pad in the Riveria wasn’t a problem for you during your IM? Unnoticable on the run?
i’ve known a few people who’ve had ‘intestinal problems’ during the latter stages of their IM. They have sworn to never ever ever wear a one piece suit again.
just something to consider.
