Desoto speedtube review

Did my first swim with my new speedtube in the pool today and wow. I’m a terrible swimmer and my 3k best time in the pool is 56,5 min which i did about a year ago. In the last couple of months i didn’t even get under the 58 minutes (also a mental problem, because i get bored after 30 minutes). Today i did it in 50,5 minutes!!!

So thank you emilio for making another great product and for the great service!! (i also like the solto run shorts)

I just got mine in the mail delivery. I can’t wait to try them out in the race on Saturday!!!

They are the bomb pair it with the ultrathin First wave top and you have a great combo if you have an off body type
.

i got the speedtube5 with the first wave pullover. both pieces are very well made and independently do a great job of leg buoyancy and arm flexiblity. unfortunately the top rides up when i swim with both pieces… from my hips to the bottom of my rib cage and then bunches up around the neck. still looking for a way to hold the first wave pullover down, tried velcro, next is quick release buttons.

I have not had that problem maybe the friction caused by my hairy beer belly resists slippage.

It sounds like your top may be a bit too big.

OK, my DeSoto Speedtube arrived Thursday afternoon. I tried them on here at work to make sure they fit, but didn’t get to swim in them until race day. Water was what, 74-75F? Two weeks ago at Half VM, I overheated in my fullsuit, so I went with the Speedtubes only. LOVED THEM! Really loved them. Cruised the swim with very little energy spent and none of the feeling of being bound up like when I wear a wetsuit. Well worth the money.

I’ll pitch in with my plaudits for the SpeedTube: I love mine. The water’s warm enough now that my full wetsuit is just too warm; even the bottom of my T1 by itself.

I was swimming in the Atlantic today, in my SpeedTube, loving life, when the skies opened up and treated me to one of my favorite spectacles; a heavy downpour. The surface of the ocean jumped skyward as the heavy raindrops fell and then rebounded back up. What a blast! Not that this had anything to do with the SpeedTube, I was just wearing mine while swimming in a rainstorm…

It sounds to me like your top is too big for you. If it rides up, it is too loose.

My top does the same when I use the speedtube. Have no problems with the same top when using the bibs. Yes, I had the size smaller top and could hardly get the thing on and had two people helping me get it off.

Go down a size… Fixing the top in place will defeat the purpose of the suit.

Is there any reason to get the bibs instead of the speedtubes?

Love my speedtube as well! Have the 5mm bottoms and 2mm top, I just did a 7.5mile swim in the bottoms, they are awesome. I had the same problem with the top, it didn’t ride up to much just felt like it was “ballooning” around the waist area so I didn’t use it on the swim. Like Emilio stated in another post I think it is actually too big. Which is suprising because I can never find gear to fit me, except for Zoot items and DeSoto. I may end up selling the top, not sure yet.

You see emilio i do actually listen to you

The Bibjohn will keep you warmer in cold water races, and they are faster than the Speedtube.

What makes the bib johns faster than the speedtubes? Are they faster both wearing and not wearing a top?

Yes, my man, you do.

What makes the bib johns faster than the speedtubes? Are they faster both wearing and not wearing a top?

Both very good questions.

  1. The Bibjohn is faster because there is more rubber down the legs and around your stomach and hips and low back. The Bibjohn works with the top on only…though some people do just fine without a top.

  2. The Speedtube is much faster that the bibjohn if you are wearing it alone with no top.
