Deep tissue 1 week before imcda? or too much

damage done to recover in time…my 5th massuire the most powerful ever…(seems likes it just a matter of time before she seperates my shoulder or something like…i always thought stronger was better??) used her fore arms and elbow to alleviate my sore hip flexors and glutes …curious what you think … ithink this kind of deep tissue is beneficial but might take more to recover…just curious?? todays session will allow 2 week recovery…tia

I get a sports massage twice per month but never had to “recover” from the massage, I get the massage to help recover from my hard training. I think if you’re receiving a normal sports massage then 1 week should be fine. If you’re receiving something that is even deeper and more painful then you might want to give yourself a couple of extra days on top.

i guess i may never know…i always thought strongest was best…in order to break up muscle lesions etc…

Extra deep/hard massage is not necessarily better according to my massage therapist. She does in fact go to a specialized person to treat an accident related injury. This specialist does do extrordinarily deep intense work, but with a specific purpose in mind, not general massage therapy. They do not need to work you to the point where you can’t train for a couple of days in order for it to be beneficial.

Another piece of good advice that I didn’t initially believe, but have since been very positively convinced about. After having some deep massage work done, be sure to drink lots of plain water. Hydrate on the heavy side for the following 12-24 hours. It greatly cuts down on the post-massage soreness.

Swaco, I am a LMT. You only want to work with an athletes body in a way that may modify their posture, movement patterns (biomechanics), or may cause “theraputic inflamation” when they are very far out from competion or are recovering from injury (same difference). The closer to an event, the more general of a Svedish style massage should be done and joint ROM should be done within their normal limits. Stimulatory massage is done pre-event and relaxation is done post-event. My card… Ivan** **D. Something very mean and ugly. I’ll never let them de-nut my dog again! They refused to put neuticles in him! I wanted the natural model. Something had to take the place of his “boys”, Packed & Potent. NeuticlesOriginal®

Anyway , so I came up with my own: Billy Smith Eats Potaoes Loves Mucho Tits. What can ya’lls creative minds produce?

As mentioned by the other LMT, stay away from deep/hard work within a few weeks of your race (either pre or post). Deep tissue work actually causes trauma (this is why you shouldn’t have deep tissue immediately before or after your hard workouts either). Stick with a circulatory/stretching type of massage. If you’re still tense, have a couple of massages (I’ve massaged people 2-3 times the week prior to an IM, but every time was VERY gentle - I guess they found they slept better those nights and didn’t suffer as much pre-race nervousness
