Quick question for someone who might know. I normally deduct all property taxes paid when doing my federal taxes.
This year, I sold a house (not primary residence). At the time of the sale, estimated property taxes due were almost $2,000 – but the bill had not yet been sent, so I had not yet paid it. I gave the buyer the $2k to pay the taxes when the bill came, because the taxes were assessed when I owned the home. Can I deduct that $2k as property taxes paid, since I gave the money to someone else to pay them?
