Been wating for Giro to become available, but first race is next w/e…much as i dislike LG as a brand, thinking about going ahead and getting a Rocket. Any yeas or nays ? Does a Prologue face shield fit a Rocket ?? thanks for thoughts.
Just received my Spiuk–very sweet and cooler than the LG. I have no idea which is faster. I’m going with cool for now…

I’m with ya’ brother!!!
Why don’t you look into the Selev Tempo. It has a very good fit, detachable earpiece for the hot days & detachable lens as well. Has cavities in the earpiece for earphones (not allowed I know).
It rides very cool in our Asian weather. Very smart design with the curves and airvents. I used to have the Bell Meteor and always felt pressure on the side of my head specially the ears. Not this one.
Expensive but well worth it with its adaptable nature.

Without the earpiece:

just got my LG chrono the other day. I am not much of an LG peep either…But I must admit this helmet isnt to bad!

It’s not that expensive as it seems it lay eggs so you can have plenty little one to sell after ! Do you know how to recognise a male or female helmet? Is it the tail?

I have a 2007 LG Rocket (more vents then previous years). I like this baby big time. Yes I go faster with it. If I turn my head or get some serious cross winds the sucker whistles big time and tells me to look ahead and not to the side. I have trouble hearing cars coming up on me as my ears are covered. The bottom of the extented pointed part of this unit is not well finished and it is tearing up the fabric on my expensive Tri tops in the shoulder aeras. I think that I can deal with this by just putting some tape on the rough edges. I was recently at a Marathon Expo in Ottawa Canada where the Rudy Project Rep was mainly promoting sun glasses but also had one of those fancy pants $700 aero helments and I tried it on. The thing was really heavy and had no vents (i.e really hot).
The bottom line is: If you feel the need for speed consider the LG Rocket, but be wary of riding in car traffic as you might not hear them, and watch out for the rough finish of the extented cone as it will tear up your Tri suit. Tim
Another vote for the Rocket. Got one almost new from Murphy’s Law while at Epicman. I used it during a 40km time trial this morning for the first time. It does whistle when your head moves out of aero, very cool. It was pretty hot today but i felt like there was enough space between the helmet and my ears to let a nice cooling airflow in. I have a Large and it fits my gigantic head (which contains a gigantic brain…)
I think you’ll be happy.
is it CPSC certified? (I actually had a guy check inside my helmet for the sticker at my last sprint.)
I don’t know about other helmuts, but my 2007 LG Rocket has been inspected and passed so far this year in one Duathalon and two Tris. Tim
I have a LG Rocket that I’ve used for time trialing. It’s supposed to be about as fast a helmet as you can get. I can’t recall where I’ve seen it, but I’ve seen some tunnel data on biketechreview.com or somewhere to support that claim. Mine sits funny on my head (excessive dork factor) and I wanted to check out some alternatives. I first bought the Selev Tempo and gave it a quick tryout. I sent it back without ever taking it out on the road. The shell sits so high off of my back (and yours, based on the photo) and that seems to be sub-optimal if I understand the aerodynamics correctly (a space like that will create an air disturbance that will not be good?). I’m no aero expert, but I’ve synthesized a lot of information I’ve read on aerodynamics and everything about the way that Selev helmet fit seemed WRONG!!! (Oh, and it completely toasted the dork meter … worse than the Rocket. But hey … it’s a ship that’s already sailed anyway, right?)
I managed to score a Giro Advantage helmet from a dealer in England. I don’t know how it stacks up versus the Rocket in terms of aerodynamics, but I used it in an Oly tri relay last week. Ventilation is clearly superior to the Rocket. When I did this race last year, I posted a time I didn’t figure I’d ever be able to beat. I beat it this year by 42 seconds. I made several changes. The helmet was only one of them. But while I never would have said the Rocket was hot, in contrast, the Giro sure seemed cool … and that seemed to really help.
,
that’s kinds what i figured w/ the Giro, which is why i was waiting. still, be nice to have something next week to race with. So, still…???
If USAT didn’t have it’s head so far up its ass it would follow USA cycling’s decision to make the european helmets legal for competition here in the USA.
