I have a followup to this question: Can you mount a wireless computer on the REAR wheel? Do wireless computers have enough range to span from the rear wheel to the front? (I need a computer for the bike I use on my trainer.)

I tried it with my Vetta and the answer would be - “sometimes”.

Well… wireless for less than $50 I’d guess it’s hard to find. Anyway, ANY Sigma has a sterm mount system but the one wireless it’s a bit more expensive than that.
I use the wireless polar system with the S720i. I had it mounted on my rear wheel and worked fine when I was alone. Great for bike trainers.
But when I went to group ride, it didn’t work. I was always catching the signal of another polar. I ended up putting it on the front wheel.
Yes, but not for $50. I have the new Cateye CD-300W which is a rear mount cadence wireless computer on my bike and it works great. Even in rain I have had no problems with it. You can find them on ebay for about $120 No problems on my trainer either. Does not interfere with my Heart Rate monitor either.
I had a Vetta wireless with cadence. Mounted the speed sensor on the rear (about the same distance away as the cadence sensor) and had to move the computer to the top tube so it would pick up the rear speed sensor. If you could just find out how to turn up the gain on that speed sensor, it should send a signal as strong as the cadence sensor. Anyway, I don’t know of one that will do what you’re asking for 50.00 or less.
Did you have the transmitter’s power cranked up?
I have both my sensors on high and have never picked up anybody elses signal in groups.
J
Here is one that may work for you.
Nop. I only have the cadence and the speed transmitter.
I think I was always catching another signal cause I started the polar next to other cyclists with polars and it would first get other signals. Anyway when I was riding, the speed transmitter (on front wheel) from the cyclist next to me was closer to my watch than mine (on rear wheel) so it would always mess with mine.
Sometimes, even with the speed sensor on the front wheel I get the sum of my signal with my partner’s signal ![]()
I also have the wireless with wireless cadence, and it worked fine on the rear wheel until just recently. Now the damn thing works fine on speed until about 20mph…then goes absolutely nuts in my typical riding speed of 22-23mph…reading anywhere from 16 to 40mph. I moved the wireless speed to the front wheel and it still is messed up. But it absolutely did work great when it worked, and I didn’t need to worry about magnets on all my different front wheels.

Are you referring to the Vetta? How do you crank up the transmitter power?
nope, just the polars
The polar sensors come factory defaulted to low on the speed sensor and med on the cad sensor.
you can set both to high and eliminate alot of the signal loss. I have both sensors set to high and the only time I loose signal is with my hands on the bullhorns. just because the watch is they to far out of the transimission fan…
All you need to do is open up sneor and move jumper onto the two pins closest to the outside of the circuit card. Battery life is decreased slightly. but I usually change both of them once a year whether they need it or not.
You’ll basically jam out anybody who is close with a stronger signal one. good for you but somebody else may pick up you signal.
Thanks.
My wireless bike computer is actually a Garmin 201 Forerunner. Been working like a charm!
Lil over the price range, but worth a look to justify the price.
