Please put on some full distance (even half) distance events earlier in the season in the midwest/southeast area. I get excited when I hear about all these new races only to hear that they are all competing for the same date in August. Some more race options in May would be nice.

+1, but I will add I want it in the NorthEast.
You like 5 hour trainer rides or in the winter something? I would think August and September would be better for those area’s.

Don’t need 5 hour rides to train for a race in May.
More accessible quality races are always a nice thing. But an early season full with a Midwest winter means a LOT of trainer hours indoors. I’ve gotten ready for an early season half once here in Minnesota and that was hard enough. I can’t imagine trying to get the volume in for an early season full distance one.
You do if it’s an Ironman.

x2…you don’t need a lot, but if the race is May, you probably start that taper in the first week of May, which means the biggest weeks are in April. I’m willing to put in big weeks in April or even March (like 20+ hours) training for a spring “A event” half Ironman, but I don’t need to ride more than 2.5 hours for those to be ready. It’s a different story even going up to 3.5-5 range when there is snow on the ground (or I suppose doing it on a trainer).
This is why I have been reluctant to do St. George and although I have eyes South Africa, it just seems like way to much trainer time or cold weather riding.

Agree on the August part but I’d vote for September and October. Seems to me that a race in the Midwest in late September would be awesome. Although the weather starts to get cooler, I’ve swam in Ohio lakes very comfortably through late October. Sept and Oct are the best time of year, actually. I have no idea why August seems to be so popular.
That HITS group has a “Traverse City” (more like an hour northeast, but still gorgeous) race in early October - all distances from sprint to basically full iron. They are definitely pretty bold to do northern Michigan in October. I do a local sprint in Lansing that weekend. Last year it was perfect weather, but two years ago it was pretty brutal. Going 4 hours north, things could get sketchy!

I should have said, I don’t need them in jan/feb when I am on the rollers. By March/April, I can get outside most days and get them in then.
We all have a chance to race Powerman Muncie Triathlons and Duathlons which hosts the USAT Regional Du Champs on Oct. 1, 2011 in Muncie, Indiana with the 2 longest distances an Oly Tri and a 10k/61.8k/10k run/bike/run format. Other distances include Tri/Du Sprints, an International Duathlon distance; 10k/41.2k.5k and an Aquabike; 1.5k/41.2k.
Is the LC Du and Oly Tri good enough?
Florida on March 25 is great weather, we have a independant Half, Lake swim, out and back bike, few rolling hills, mostly flat.

Nice, I look into it. Want to put up a full option too. I don’t mind the hours on the trainer, and I can do most I my biking outdoors starting in March. Have done IMSG twice, but that’s a long way to travel.
the Authorities are our biggest problems for a full, they are not ready for that yet, sorrry
