Dear Country music

Dear Country music,

Even though I have sold my soul to Rock N Roll I have to tell you that you still have my heart. A well crafted country song is a thing of pure beauty. It will make you laugh, cry, dance and love. Country music makes me proud to be an American. What I am noticing, my sweet Country music, is that as you grow into the new milliumem you just flat out suck. You have allowed Nashville to take control over you with it’s formulas and pie charts. You are awful.

What has happened? Why do you choose to be the shit on the toilet paper I just wiped my ass with? Let me give you an example…

Really? This sucks so hard I can’t even breath. It’s not just these two songs though. You have made my country sisters be blonde haired “triple threats”. You took my country brothers and made them into metrosexual pansies. You take the worst pop has to offer and turn them into clones of slowman’s dog’s turds. I take that back. slowman’s wonderful puppy poop is better.

Watch this and get back to what made you great…

Country music started to suck when it became the official genre of the GOP.

Country music died with Johny Cash.

"Country music started to suck when it became the official genre of the GOP.

;-)"

So true.

when Country Music and Western Music joined to become Country Western - it was doomed.

I have to think about that. Interesting.

I agree with you - you are a purist. The Kenny Chesney’s of the world have ruined it.

I hate songs where hicks are singing about being hicks. Just write a good song and don’t tell me why being a hick is the greatest.

The stuff you posted is good. I like these too

Nice!

I don’t know man, western music is more like that traditional C & W that Tibbs favors

.

Uncle Tupelo had it. Wilco still to some extent.

Here’s another of my favorites:

I grew up listening to many kinds of traditional American music. Bluegrass, western, western swing, Texas swing, Nashville country, etc. and love them all. I even like some 70’s cross over. It’s the plastic shit that comes out now that drives me insane.

It is easy to make someone laugh, cry or any other physical reaction to emotion. I tear up every time I see that commercial where the soldier is walking through the empty streets of a city looking lost until a Marine comes up and shakes his hand and says “Welcome home.” Wet eyes fight tears every time. That doesn’t make it a great commercial though. It is a highly developed piece that is made to react with my love of veterans. It’s so heavy handed I can’t help feel what it wants me to feel.

Country used to be more subtle. You had to listen carefully and really feel the song out. Example…

Perhaps this explains the demise of C&W: Bad Song Titles
.

I’m loving today’s contemporary bluegrass

That makes me want to drink a beer. Good musics makes you want to drink a beer.

Awful. I have to admit that I dig some of those songs. I’m so tacky!

yep.

WTF?

I am NOT a Republican and I love country music. I could listen to Garth Brooks all day. The man is seriously talented. Van Zant is one of my running favorites.

Tibbs:

I think you will like this one. I saw Jamey Johnson sing this song on David Letterman back on Dec 8, 2008, but I don’t think the video is available anymore it was a classic live version.

Just found the live version from Letterman:

Also thanks for sharing the all time best Country & Western song…“He Stopped Loving Her Today.” George sang this song on David Letterman back in November 2006 when he was promoting his new album, “Hits I Missed…and One I Didn’t.” I remember watching George sing this song and trying to hold back the tears. Suprisingly it is still out on Youtube:

You’re a brave man with an iron stomach.

Whatever happened to Travis Tritt. I like his voice
