Likely pulling the trigger on an Acura MDX this week. They have an option for an interior bike rack, which as you would expect, the sales guy knew little about. List is about $300, meaning I’d get it for about $225. Is it worth it or is it better to just lay the bike down in the cargo area? Is is compatible with all bikes?
I have an Xterra that has the same option…but, I just lay the bike down in the back…don’t even need to take any wheels off. For long trips where you have more crap, its fairly easy to just stand the bikes up and lean them against the side or against your mound o’ stuff (which is what I did going from Ohio to Florida).
I guess it depends on how high your seatpost is. Those internal racks require taking the front wheel out to bolt down the fork to the rack, and if your seatpost/roofline is too low, you’d have to remove the seatpost too.
Too much trouble for me - I’d either just sling it in sideways without removing anything, or spend the cash on a good hitch receiver and rack.
or get an Element and just roll it in…
may be worth it but I got a Saris internal rack for my then girlfriends mercedes suv thinking we’d use it and we ended up just laying the bikes down every time we went out. so if you want to buy a never used Saris Traps Triple Track bike rack with three fork mounts ($129.99 value) for $65 plus shipping, let me know. I have an element now, just roll em in

I bought the 2003 MDX. I tried the dealer installed internal rack (it’s just a fork mount that bolts into the floor board), but could not use it. It mounted too close to the rear door to use with my bike with aero bars/shifters. I ended up buying an after market system, similar the the Saris, that I can move around as necessary.
