Dead legs (1)

The last 2-3 weeks it seems like my legs are always sore and dead. I am doing good with my recovery nutrition and a decent job rolling and stretching. This was my last week before taper for IMMunice. Is this normal for a first time? Any suggestions or enjoy the taper and it will be all good?

It’s normal. If you’re worried, take a day off. You’re better off being a little undertrained than overcooked on race day.

I went through high school and college with my legs feeling like that much of the time.

Its completely normal to feel this way the few weeks leading to taper. I just finished my first 1/2 IM and was really worried about having fresh legs for the race. During my taper I was very careful to not overdo it. No further fitness can be gained during this time but you sure can screw things up the other way by not allowing yourself to recover properly. That last week before my race was the only time in the previous 16 weeks that I didn’t wake up in the morning and feel like I was hit by a truck–my aches and pains all went away, my usual whole-body fatigue level disappeared and I was so anxious to race I couldn’t wait! Follow your taper plan to a T and error on the doing-less side if you aren’t sure. Good luck!
