Emilio and I go back to 1982. I’ve raced him so many times I can’t even count. He won just about all of those races, and he finished in front of me every time that I can remember. Those were great times, during the initial run-up in triathlon. Emilio and I were around during a time of pioneering apparel makers, like Anthony Gatti (Gatti), Victor de Silva (Tri-Fit), and the guys at Life’s a Beach (eventually No Fear), Chrystal Nylin at Zoot, the guys at Edgewear. Emilio is the guy in that group who’s still standing, still here. Still owns the business he founded, never folded, never sold, just kept building and innovating, just for triathlon.

I started Quintana Roo in 1987. Emilio and I partnered up in 1989 and De Soto spent its first 2 years in the QR factory in San Marcos, CA, in North San Diego County. I’m very proud of Emilio and everything he’s accomplished, both professionally and personally. He’s representative of the soul and spirit of triathlon in a way that few others are. There aren’t that many guys from the early 80s out there still doing it.

Can you comment on the fit of the skin cooler jerseys, Emilio?

I’m 5’9" and around 145 lbs (slender). Would you consider them slim fit or relaxed fit through the torso? Off the cuff, I’m thinking a size small, so long as the length is sufficient.

You will be better suited in size small in both garments. The jersey are more of a relaxed fit. As a reference, I am 5 10 165-172 and I am medium in all De Soto product.

I’ve been meaning to try DeSoto for a while now. This looks like the perfect opportunity!

What size would you recommend for a guy that’s 6’4", ~180lbs, and a 30-31" waist? I’m kinda all over your recommended size chart.

CHEST (measured as the largest part of circumference)
WAIST (circumference measured at the belly-button line)
HIPS (circumference measured at the widest point, not just at your hips. typically this will measure just a few inches below your hips bones and around the largest part of the glutes)

Also any additional information that you know about your body type that you think might be important for me to know. Some memorable, yet helpful ones I have received include:

“I have a long torso”
“I have a bucket like J-LO”
“I have large thighs like a track cyclist”
“I have a classic pear-shape body, but I can’t help it.”
“I grew up swimming and my shoulders are very broad”
“A lot of my weight is in my beer belly, but I am training to get rid of it”

With this info I can recommend with almost perfect accuracy.

Emilio, can you provide a clarification on when we can expect delivery of the kit if we ordered today? Dan mentioned a few weeks but further along in the posts you mentioned mid August. Planning the summer wardrobe!
