Just saw a posting on his Twitter site that DZ had his house broken into while he was at the TOC…looks like they took just about everything but the kitchen sink. What kind of a dirtbag does this sort of thing. Had to have been planned well in advance I’d imagine…especially for no one to notice.
I would imagine the same kind of dirtbag that would break into your house as well.
I would guess 9 times out of 10 it is for drug money.
that surel was some cycling-avid robbing squad. now they got the furniture to match Lance’s bontrager wheels (too bad they had to return the rest of the bike). next they gonna go for Boonen’s Lamborghini. and in the end, they will also steal cadel evans’ wife.

They got his bikes and his cars…that seems a little more organized then a smash and grab job.
Years ago I was in a small town & stopped at a little restaurant for breakfast. While using the “facilities” I ran across a three page list of what locals were on vacation, their address & the dates they were out of town…
I could just picture what the cop looked like that left that in the stall.
If I was a high profile person (or medium profile person) that my travel dates were clearly broadcast I’d invest in a house sitter.

I agree if they are putting you in a magazine with pictures of your house and your 50k worth of bikes along with the dates you’ll be racing out of the country, it’s probably worth getting a good security system, had to have been someone who new what they were looking for, which makes me doubt it was a “drug money” kind of deal. I heard they took somewhat worthless (money-wise) things like trophies and jerseys

The break-in occurred sometime between Feb. 13 and 23. Some of the stolen items of note include:
Black 2008 Subaru Outback, Utah plate A189NC Black 2006 Toyota Scion, Utah plate 094VWM Giro D Italia Race Medal (approx. 6" circumference) Olympic Seiko watch Beijing Olympic ring (silver) with initials “DZ” engraved ($4,000) Olympic Time Trial Bike, plus 12 other bikes (combined value of $100,000) Cervelo (black/red) bike frame - team issued ($5000) Tag Heuer watch ($6,000) Bose Speaker/Receiver System ($15,000) Sony 52" flat screen TV ($4,000) Two Mac Books and one Mac desktop, plus hard drive ($8,000) A pair of Space legs, a recovery compression system for legs ($5,000) 7 Marvel sideshow statues ($11,000)
The Marvel sideshow statues are very distinctive. They stand 2-3 feet tall and are very heavy. The stolen statues were of: “Hellboy” pistol figurine, "Ash"Army of Darkness, “Tomb Raider” Lara Croft, “The Punisher,” “Alien,” “Ironman” Limited Edition, and a “Gears of War” character.
That’s awful. Following his blog I remember reading how into Marvel stuff he is.
That memoribilia plus his Olympics and Giro stuff, wow, this really sucks a lot. I feel awful for him.
It’s odd that they did not take any of the TdF stuff, hope they catch the guys soon.

ahhh semantics…thank you for the correction…saying he was robbed just sounded better than he was burgled though. Burgled just looks weird when you type it.

Are those Twitter accounts the real deal? I often wonder if its a marketing ploy. Some of the posts are pretty random, if I were an athlete at this level why would I post that I am riding in a van, or heading out to dinner, or watching a movie? Whats in it for them? I’ve always thought these Twitter things are phonies, or assistants that do the posting for them.

Yes they are real, but DZ’s isn’t really worth following. His updates are too vague and uninteresting for me to care.
However, Lance’s twitter page might take over the world. Last week alone he got around 60K+ new subscribers. He updates pretty regularly with pics and all. It’s worth following.
