Dateline's "Expose" on Ipod theft: aka humanity is fu*king stupid

The only mental game I understoud ,was like a hundred dollar bill laying in the street ,its yours or the next guys . They picked a bad group of people that may shoot you for a pair of shoes , so the whole show was ghetto entrapment game in my eyes.

The same with that predator trap , 40yrs ago banging a 14 yr old was dating . If not for underage lust & liquor half of us wouldn’t be here.

**and then confronts the user with footage of the theft while asking, “why’d you do this?” **

Is it really theft if someone picks up an abandoned/lost iPod? The kid who took it out of the car would definately be theft, but I wouldn’t consider picking up an iPod just laying on a park bench to be stealing.

This was the question I kept asking my self (in between asking myself, ‘‘why the hell are you watching this crap?’’). I would be very difficult to prove the vast majority of those thefts in a court of law, as most of the items seemed to be ‘‘abandoned.’’

“If, I had it to do again, I wouldn’t.”

“Well, someone stole mine, so I was just breaking even.”

“It wasn’t really stealing, someone just left it sitting there.”

Actually there is sound logic and reasoning in all three statements. You just disagree with their morals (though I’ll agree that the first is more of a rouse that one uses to convince the authorities that you aren’t a bad person. “It was a mistake! I don’t know what I was thinking.”

Out of curiosity, what do YOU do when something nice is just lying around?

I should clarify: I didn’t see the special, so I really have no idea what the circumstances were.

Didn’t see the show (and wouldn’t) but I’ve run across things like this and handed them in before. If I find cash in the street though, it’s mine (figure it’s not going to make it’s way back to whoever lost it whatever I do with it).

To who?

I’ll say that I didn’t and wouldn’t see the show, either, but it sounds like entrapment to me. (Not in the legal sense.)

They left them in various places. Some they left on the dashboard of a top open convertable (definately theft). Some the left on benches and tables in a mall (technically abandoned, but could have been turned into the lost and found at the mall). Some they left on benches, out of doors, in public places (these items would definately be considered abandoned and even the best do gooder would have no where to go to turn them in). The piece was poorly done.

I’m talking about in malls or restaurants or similar where there is somewhere to hand stuff in to. If it was on the beach I’d probably just leave it there. I don’t make a habit of going into other people’s cars to see if they’ve left something lying around in there

Sounds like a truly stupid show but that’s hardly surprising. I don’t watch any tv other than sports and the simpsons.

Ken, I see no evidence that social and moral responsibility were ever alive.

But I do hope, like you, that we can bring on a age of enlightenment.

I think it will have to start with genetic engineering, or breeding licenses though.

HAHA!

Reason #5 humanity is hurtling toward extinction: people actually waste time watching this kind of crap TV programming when they could be doing something useful. For example, posting to Slowtwitch…

I agree with you here, out of a car, theft, off a bench in the middle of a park with no one around…mine. But I’m the type of person that would make an effort to try and figure out who’s it was too. Unfortunately too much effort will likely end up getting you another thief rather the actual owner.
