Dark Weekend-No Posts

We should designate a weekend where we keep ourselves from viewing, reading, posting etc anything on slowtwitch forums and spend that time doing something more worthwhile.

Not “worthwhile” as though this whole thing isn’t, just “more worthwhile.”

I think after all the jokes about how dumb this idea is, this could really turn into a positive effort from a lot of people.

Well, have at it. See you Monday.

I’m confused. What do you mean worthwhile? Like Charity or volunteer stuff?

I guess I fail to see how simply not posting here is more worthwhile than posting here. Also with all the recent charity that gone on here I fail to see how this could be more “worthwhile”.

I really do NOT mean to judge. I just know a concerted effort of slowtwitchers away from the forums can also be accomplished, just as it has been done on the forums. This isn’t to say that slowtwitchers are not charitable away from the forums. I just thought it would be neat to have an organized absence in the name of doing something more worthwhile. Get the group to strive even higher.

Has it ever been done?

While we’re at it, why don’t we designate one week per month in which, instead of training, we all do something “more worthwhile”? I mean, really, if the average Slowtwitcher spends 8 or 10 hours a week doing something as essentially meaningless as pedalling a bike around, think how much we could accomplish by collectively spending that time on something worthwhile.

I would just go ahead and do it by myself, but it somehow doesn’t seem meaningful to me unless everyone else does it, too.

Does not the power of many overcome the power of the few in most cases?

I know in my area I’d either be alone or with only a couple of other St’rs. Point being if someone comes up with an idea here it can easily turn into a brush fire. If I come up with an idea over the weekend and keep it to myself…it’ll likely die. It woudl likely even die if I shared it with my group of friends. However if the idea had any merit it would likely take off here.

I’m not Poo-poohing your idea, as doing good outside of ST is commendable. I’m just wondering if it isn’t easier to do good here.

OTOH if you’re speaking of not wasting time like me argueing about things like this and going out and actually doing good…then you have a point.

kittycat could never handle a whole weekend without posting :stuck_out_tongue:
.

Since my only computer access is at work during the workweek, I’m always absent on weekends. For me (and for my place of employment) a “Dark” weekday would be more productive

Chris

Perhaps we should choose a weekday to lay off then.

Or perhaps an easily agreeable date like September 11th would be a good day to turn off the computer and for everyoen to get outdoors or something.

You’re still here? Why aren’t you outside or something?

You’re just missing the point. The point is to arrange a time for everyone to leave.

There will always be the ones who aren’t interested.

The point is to arrange a time for everyone to leave.

Yes, I got that. The point you’re missing is that there’s no point in doing that. Why is it so important to you that we all leave at once? If you think there are more worthwhile things to spend your time on, do so. It’s that simple.

“I just thought it would be neat to have an organized absence in the name of doing something more worthwhile.”

Knowing your are doing something worthwhile with lots of others at the same time, without being in their immediate company, sounded cool. The thought of all of us collectively impacting someone other than ourselves and other slowtwitchers sounded neat.

Nothing could be more worthwhile than the hottie thread…

**Learn to read. **

I’ll get right on that. Maybe that could be the Slowtwitch Weekend Project: Bestow literacy on Vitus. Course, we’d have to be in here to do it, so . . . forget it.

The thought of all of us collectively impacting someone other than ourselves and other slowtwitchers sounded neat.

And your big idea, unless I read it incorrectly, was to “get outdoors, or something.” I’m not sure how getting a bunch of triathletes in disparate areas outside all at the same time impacts anyone positively, to be honest.

I know how “neat” it sounds to make some sort of Grand Gesture, even if you don’t have a cause to make it for, but here’s an idea for consideration- sometimes Grand Gestures like that are completely meaningless, and sometimes they’re worse than meaningless.

I say again, sincerely, that if you have some more worthwhile use of time than being in here, just get to it already.

I love you.
