However, I’m missing an important piece of information which might help triathletes make up their mind about what to buy or test.
You can get a Zipp 404 from other companies, they buy the carbon rim and build a wheel with their hub and spokes. Examples are American Classics and Velomax but you can even get the rim from Zipp and build whatever you want with it. I’m not saying Zipp 404 are a lesser wheel than Velomax but they are different and one might prefer them. I do.
This is not to take anything away from Zipp, they make money by selling the rim only to AC, Velomax and your local wheel builder.
PS: if you’ve never seen a Velomax hub, go and check one out. If your like bike-porn, like I do, you’ll get a kick out of it!
