**JIMBARAN BAY, BALI, INDONESIA (June 25, 2007) **British elite athlete Daniel Plews took the overall win at the inaugural Bali International Triathlon on Sunday, June 24, 2007, with a resounding victory time of 1:58:30. On a slightly overcast day and temperatures reaching 29C, Taipei based athlete Craig Johns (2:04:36) led the pack throughout the 1.5k Swim and 40k bike. Singapore based Daniel Plews was not far behind, passing Craig Johns at the 1k mark on the 10k run. He then expanded his lead to 6 minutes before finishing on the beach in front of the Four Seasons Hotel. Nearly 300 international and Indonesian athletes and residents took part in the inaugural triathlon and 5k Fun Run. The event expo was home to a lively celebration where musicians entertained throughout the morning. The Four Seasons offered delicious food and drink while local businesses sold Balinese merchandise and masseurs provided free massages to the public and athletes. “The event was a tremendous success for the island of Bali and an amazing experience for all of the athletes,” said co-event director Brennan Lindner. “With a traditional Balinese bike blessing before the race, a race route that takes riders past ancient temples, and cheering children along the 10k run, this event is truly unique.” Planning has already begun for the 2008 event to be announced later this year.
