Still can’t quite believe this! Such an awesome run by them both!! Jakob will be the new Bekele, will bump this post in 5y
that is a sub 350 mile. Impressive.

I love the Monaco meet. It is the best for middle distance every year.
All the athletes go there to run fast and set records.
Just look at the 3,000sc for women. What a race for the Americans.
Jakob is the first runner that has trained like a swimmer in Norway. What I mean with that is twice a day from a young age. His coach/dad is crazy, but he is also share how he coach.
3.31 at 17 is just nuts
Here you have the splits for every 100m. He ran sub 55 last lap

I am not sure people realise just how special this run is.
Monaco is a short track ain’t it? According to many on letsrun anyway heh
Goosebumps! What a race! Notice that Jakob had the fastest last 800 and 400 in the field. With a finish like that he is going to be incredibly hard to beat if he can be near the front after 800m.
Jakob is also going to become an amazing distance runner. He is already extraordinary for his age in the 5K and has an incredible stayer ability.
And Filip with 3:30:01! Wow! The odds are low for a repeat victory in the European Champs.

Great races. WR gets destroyed in the women’s steeple. Amos broke out of his slump with a 1:42.14 in the 800. The women’s 800 was fast and deep though the story was the same with Caster out in front and the rest of the field frustrated about not getting a fair race.
And Timothy Cheruiyot dusting the field in the 1500 in 3:28.41. The 1500 at the Tokyo Olympics is shaping up to be a great race. That is unless it becomes a 1200 meter tactical jog prior to a last lap sprint like it was in Brazil.
halvard, do you know which events Jakob is running in Berlin? Just the 15 or 5000 as well or is he winging it like Filip? I believe he has qualified for the 3000sc but doesn’t seem likely he runs that.
Looking at the results from 2016, he has a great chance at all of them, Filip won the 1500 in 3:46 and closed in 51s, the 5000m was won in 13:40 with a 2:29 last K and the steeple was won in 8:25. Jakob has closed a faster race in 52, closed a faster 5000 in 2:24 and ran a steeple last year in 8:26 (likely in sub 8:10 shape now), so his chances are great! Seems Filip will be his biggest threat in the 1500, but if they both do the 5000 I’d put my money on Jakob.
unfortunately the steeple is the day before the 1500 so likely won’t happen.

It is equal to 3.48.12 according to Letsrun.com
