Damn that Hurts - foot pain in T2

Getting off the bike at T2 and getting into my run I’m having a problem with pain in outside edges of my feet along the bone. On the bike I think there is a bit of numbness there but nothing thats bothered me. If I sit for a couple of minutes, its gone. Of course thats not an option in a race. I’ve experimented with tight and loose shoes, Loose shoes help some. Any Suggestions?

I have had a similar affliction lately. It woories me because of the problems some of our customers have had with plantar fascitus (sp?).

Interestingly, it may be shoes too tight- or shoes too loose. Shoes that do not provide adequate skeletal support, or just plain fit poorly, may be contributing to this.

It may be worth evaluating your shoe fit.

I used to think it was too tight shoes until I went & saw Tom Slocum @ High Sierra Cycles & got a bike fit by him. He built wedges for my shoes, to fit b/t the cleats & soles, and voila: no more pain. You can also buy aftermarket wedges (I think Lemond makes some?). The difference that 1-3 degrees of difference makes is amazing. That, plus switching out the cheap insoles to aftermarket Pederson (Peterson?) Powerbeds made a world of differnece. Probably picked up 10-20 watts just with a better fit. Fit on the bike is incredibly important: I put biomechanical efficiency & fit a close second.

Can you explain these wedges a bit more, I haven’t seen them. what are they made of, which way do they wedge. Is there a source for them on the internet. etc.

Thanks
