Damn Heat

August in Florida really stinks. The heat index is over 100 any time, day or night. I just got back from a 2.5 mile run that was supposed to be 5 miles. I was barely doing 8:00 miles. I was not breathing at all hard, yet I was dying and the HR was way over 170 at the end of the run. No aerobic stress to speak of, but the thermal stress was a killer.

Does anyone think workouts like that make you stronger? I seriously doubt it. Not running doesn’t work either though.

What is a poor boy to do?

t think it helps to workout in heat if you’ll be competing in heat. It gets you acclimated and whne race time comes, you’ll have a mental place to go to so you won’t have as much trouble. It still sucks though.

Well, it’s 82 and pleasant in the midwest. Sunny and a light breeze. Sucks to be you for once. Now when December comes rollin…
