Enjoyed a long ride this morning in preparation for IMLOU. The first two bottles were mixed with ‘older’ Go Grape Cytomax, the second round of bottles from a brand new container. Go Grape has always been my favorite flavor. The first two bottles tasted ‘right’. The successive bottles, well, they tasted like crap. The Grape flavor seemed more ‘artificial’ and the aftertaste less than pleasant.
Has anyone else noticed this ? Did Cytomax change the Go Grape recipe ?

My problem with cytomax is that it gets absolutly disgusting when it warms up in hot weather conditions, although it tastes good when it is cool. This is my new criteria for selecting sport nutrition such as bars and gels as well, I test them when they have been in my jerseye’s pocket for a couple of hours during a ride or run on a hot day. I think eLoad and Gatorade preserve their tastes better than Cytomax… As for Gels, GU Lemon sublime is good, Cliff Cola is very bad, all powergels are bad in that sense.
I love the Cytomax, but have to agree that the taste of piping hot Tangy Orange leaves a lot to be desired.
I mistakenly purchased a container of Cool Citrus and it’s much better than Tangy Orange after a few hours in the saddle. The taste is also more subdued and not as over the top sugary.
I love cytomax drinks. I really like the orange/green tea extract flavor, the grape, and the tropical. I absolutely love all those but the lemon lime flavor tastes awful to me.
Fruit punch for training…grape for speedwork…Cool Citrus for Race Day…let me know if you want to try some of either of the two you haven’t used…you know where to find me!
