I am giving some serious thought to getting a cyclocross bike for the winter training months. I have never been anywhere near one so I am looking for some advice. First on the list is value. Next how do I size a cross bike? Any help would be appreciated.
If you do a search of this topic, you will find a fairly lengthy discussion of cross bike fitting in a recent thread.
For winter training, the one recommendation I would make is that you purchase a bike with disc brakes. My sponsor gave me a third bike with discs this season, just to use for training and at clinics, and I’m buying it now that the season is over. It’s just too cool for words to have a rain/crap bike that has absolutely consistant, weather-proof braking, and man, it really reduces maintenance time when you don’t have to mess with the brakes.
Redline, K2, or Cannondale disc bikes would be my choice (with value as #1 on the list.)
