Cyclist dies during race

Galletti dies during Spanish race Italian cyclist Alessio Galletti, 37, has died after passing out on a climb in a race in northern Spain.

The former Giro d’Italia rider, who rode for team Naturino-Sapore di Mare, had difficulties breathing while riding up to the top of Alto de La Manzaneda.

“Suddenly he stopped and said his chest was hurting him. He passed out on the road,” said team-mate Mario de Sarraga.

Galletti turned pro in 1994 and won the 2003 Fred Mengoni Grand Prix and a stage on the 2001 Tour Down Under.
