Cyclingpeaks Help

Having trouble when I download my workouts onto my computer. Even though I ride for an hour on the trainer, the program downloads 11k records and the graphs don’t appear correctly. For instance, there will be a period in which it seems to record the workout, then it spikes at over 1100 watts and stays leveled off at that number for the rest of the graph(roughly 2+ hours). I’ve been able to download a few workouts correctly, but about half have had the aforementioned problem.

Anyone have any fixes? Is it a battery issue for the CPU? Everything else seems to be functioning properly during the ride.

I am running Powertap Standard Model.

Sounds like a problem with the PowerTap to me. Take a look at your .wko file that was created for the workout…but I’m pretty sure it will just show the same thing as you see in the graph. That being so, I could only conclude that the powertap is having a problem reading/writing it’s memory.

Check your torque- you may have to rezero it. Batteries may need to be replaced too, but not in the CPU. You have a battery in the hub that needs to be replaced.

Powertaps don’t always work too well on the trainer (or the Polar for that matter). Some do, some don’t. Make sure that it works OK outside first, then troubleshoot from there.

The torque seems to be fine as it hits zero when coasting.

What indications would there be that the battery needs replacing in the hub or the CPU? As I said, during the ride, it seems to be reading accurately.

Other than the display going dead, I just make sure to change out my hub battery every couple of months depending on use.

Have you also looked to make sure the sensor wasn’t bumped? I found that the difference between my Pro and Standard was pretty “off” from the instruction manual, and ended up getting bad readings until I put the sensor in the correct spot from trial and error. If your PT is old, it may be time for an overhaul and new sensor harness.

Another problem that I’ve seen is using the PT on the trainer and cranking the trainer down hard on the skewer, or not having it enough. PT hubs are not mavic quality, so you can stress it slightly which could throw it off.

Well, I don’t think any of those are the trouble. The specific readings on the computer are fine–I am not seeing crazy spikes during the course of my ride, just during down load. And the fact is, it appears to download my actual ride, but it adds some crazy data at the end(i.e. a plateau of over 1k watts with weird inverted spikes). Could be interference I suppose, just don’t know from what as I don’t use a HR monitor or anything of that sort.

Further update: just for kicks, I installed the software that comes bundled with the Power Tap to see if it had any problems–it downloaded the ride perfectly. Very odd.

Send an e-mail to Hunter using the contact us page at www.cyclingpeakssoftware.com and let him know of the issue. I believe that a number of the Power Tap units coming back from Saris/CycleOps seem to have an intermittent issue with the firmware. So, let him know if this unit has been recently repaired.

I think you answered your problem there, and as the previous poster said, check back with cyclingpeaks.

Generally, I’ve found that cyclingpeaks has the best software. Loads better than SRM/PT. Plus, if you change power systems, you can keep the same software.

Good luck. Hope they help you out-
