Is this frowned upon? Been nagging since November building up to a half marathon. I’ve only run about 5 times since the half in November.
Probably. I had psoas tendonitis that kept me from running, so I rode a ton. In retrospect, that prolonged my recovery.
Hip is a large area. Can you be more specific as to what tendon?
Gluteus medius and minimus. It’s right in and around the greater trochanter. Even on the greater trochanter you can feel what seems like knots or scar tissue on the bone.
Have you been to an ortho to rule out a tear?
I had hip tendonitis that started in October. I spent 6 weeks going to a regular PT place…no real improvement. Then I went to a specialized PT for athletes. He doesn’t accept insurance so it was more expensive per visit, but I wound up spending less than the other PT because I didn’t have to go as often. He did very specific and specialized therapy. Three visits and I’m golden. Moral of the story, find a good PT that specializes in you as an athlete. Get better now during the base season so when the crazy training and intervals come you’ll be in good health.
Good luck!
Hey there…just responding to your reply regarding psoas issues.
Did you find any exercises that were more helpful than others in strengthening it?
So far I’ve been doing something called a “Gate Opener” that seems to be helpful. Definitely trying to make sure this sort of weakness doesn’t creep in again.
Thanks in advance,
Matt
