Any of you guys know where I can buy a pair of Specialized Tri Vent shoes in my Christmas visit? I also want to get some e gels.
Khai, did you have any joy arranging a day/evening to go to Burnaby Velodrome with some of the local 'twitchers?

Not Khai but from Van, check out http://www.labicicletta.ca/ their number is 604-872-2424
Ask for Tom or Paul. Not sure if they carry that model but I know they carry Specialised shoes. Warning - typical Italian grouch roadie store, but they fine with road stuff.
You planning to bring a bike?. If so always welcome to come out for a ride. Rode with Khai and Power Goyza yesterday, social ride. We are planning to get some more rides in over the holdiday period. Nothing too extreme!
Simon
p/s e-gels is this the high sodium gel or one of the hammer products? Try the running stores - Forerunners, Running Room and Runners Den (Coquitlam burb of Van) and North Shore Athletics. The latter usually has a fair bit of tri clothes. Given the strenght of the sterling shopping should be fun!
Thanks Simon, are they intown (I would be coming from Delta)? I did not visit them when I was over in September but will give them a call. I managed to visit Runners Den in Port Moody and the runners shop by O’Briens bike shop in White Rock, who’s name I forget but couldn’t recall who sold e gel.
Khai was trying to get a session at theVelodrome in Burnaby arranged for a few of us after they reopen on the 4th and before I leave on the 7th, would you and Power G be interested? It would be neat to meet up and put faces to the names.
I am supposed to be doing the Fat Ass 50k on New Years but I had to stop our 10 x 1000m Run session on the track today due to sharp gluteal pain,so may not be able to do that (I guess my gf won’t mind too much!)
Keep in touch,
Yo dude, sorry I missed this earlier. Definitely hit up La Bicicletta for the Specialized shoes. While I’m not sure that they carry that particular model, I do know for a fact that they do carry Specialized shoes - and may be the only store in town to, as far as I know.
Re the 'drome, I was just talking to PG about that yesterday. My plans to call got lost in the shuffle, but I will follow up next week. PG’s in for sure, I’m hoping we can get SimpleS and his crew out, and maybe JohnG and MarcoInBC as well. That’d be awesome.
Hey Khai, thanks for getting back to me. Is La Bic in North Van or central? I have a vague idea it is around Kitsano, is that right? I will try them for sure.
That would be great if we got a ST track team together, I look forward to hearing how things progress.
west broadway, Vancouver…I think the address is 233?
Julian
La Bic is on Broadway a couple of blocks east of Cambie (Oak if you are coming in from Delta)
I am not sure about the Dome! I have enough problems with the roadie group rides! But would love to meet up.
Shop in White Rock is Penninsular Runners (run by former Olympians, good store) Runners Den is a good store, Paul one of the owners is an ultra runner and his wife is a very good iron woman (placed at IMC a few years back) Nice people.
Fat Ass 50! you are in insane.
La Bic is in Vancouver nearer Granville Island than Kits, kind of! Near Mountain Equipment Co-op, a favourite of our friends from the UK.
But also try dizzycycles they use to carry Specialised shoes as well but not sure about tri and road these days. The store on North Van is better than the one in Kits.
Thats it! Pen runners, I thought it have quite a cool vibe around it, the day I went it was chucking it down(surprise) but there were runners starting and finishing from the shop and even using the bathroom to change in, which I thought was very nice of the shop. I did notice the owners olympic palmares but I’m sorry, I did not recognise their names.
Thanks for the info in your following post I will check out the other two stores you mentioned including the mountain hardware place, looks like I will be returning home with a bigger heavier bag AGAIN!
See you at the 'drome!
Peninsula Runners also has a big store right off the 200th st exit on the freeway… about 20 minutes max from Delta. If La Bicyclette doesn’t carry the shoe, have them give Life Cycles in Abbotsford (40 minutes east of Delta) a call as they are also a Specialized dealer.
I’d also second an earlier recommendation… North Shore Athletics. The owner, Keith, is a good guy. It’s a great store and he’s got lots of great tri stuff, including nutrition, as North Van is a HUGE mtn biking community.
Thanks Arne, whereabouts is North Shore Athletics?
I work at North Shore Athletics part time… we are at 12th and lonsdale in North Vancouver…off 99 at lonsdale go south down to the water until you hit 12th street…1200 Lonsdale.

It just get better! I looked up your site and see you have a Boxing Day Sale, I will probably pop along with the gf.
Let me know if the Velodrome session happens - it is about 3k from my home - ride past it most days - having unseasonably warm weather right now - so please don’t screw with it when you arrive:)
.
Yeah, cheers Shaun. The weather here changed on Saturday to Vancouver style! After 3 weeks of cold, dry weather and not a drop of rain, we have had showers on and off today. I think the biggest risk is that I find my rainwear is not up to Vancouver standards.
I sure will give you a pm if Khai gets it to happen.
Ok, so I can’t actually call anyone there but I have left a message on the voicemail and sent email requesting times available for “drop in”. So far it’s looking like Wed Jan 05 will be the best day as I believe Julian leaves on Thursday, and the 'drome closes early on Mon/Tues (18:00 and 12:00). Wed the 'drome is open from 15:00-22:30. Given that I work in Richmond, 18:00 is the absolute soonest that I’d be able to get there - and later would be better.
More updates as I get them.
PS - we’d love to see/meet any of you “hidden” Vancouverites that I’m simply not aware of as being local, too. (This thread has produced a couple already)
Good man, Khai. I actually leave on the Friday breakfast time flight, so if Thursday helps the equation… Otherwise Thursday evening at 1800 onwards would see me there. That’s great that I am boosting the Vancouver branch of known Vancouverites, maybe the following time I come over we could hold a “critical mass” ride on the Lions Bridge, well maybe not, eh ![]()
It’s ON!!! A very nice lady named Barb called me back and gave me the scoop:
On Wed January the 5th, the Burnaby Velodrome will be open on from 15:00-21:00/22:00 (she couldn’t quite remember) with open races at 19:00. Cost to race is $5 plus a 1-day license if you don’t already hold one. Open track time before/after the racing if you don’t want to race. Bike rentals are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
I’ll be there @ 18:00 or so (as soon as I can get there)
All local Slowtwitchers are encouraged to come out for an evening of leg breaking fun.
Excellent work,Khai. I will be there at 1800 also. How many other are coming? PowerGyza? SimpleS? Sean? Shaun? Arne?
