I don’t have a powermeter for cycling (will put it on the birthday/christmas wish list), however I do have a heart rate monitor.
Are there any cycling training programs available (i.e. software, internet or hard copy) out there that are based upon heart rate training zones to follow? I know there are a lot of coached based and/or individual workouts available, but I would like to find something that would provide a more detailed/structured program based upon heart rate zones to follow on a weekly or monthly basis?

Yes, I provide both HR and power based training plans. See here for details:
RST Training Plans
I and a couple of others have been using this http://www.computrainer.com/rm_inc/PIGuarantee.htm, adapted to heart rate, this winter (NZ). Results have been very good. Drop me a PM if you are interested in acquiring a copy of it. It’s hard, but the rewards are definitely there. The really good thing about is the frequent testing - something you should look for in any program. Heart rates do not change much over the course of the program, but speed for a given intensity level definitely has. Since this is measured on a wind trainer, the gains are real. not imaginary.
I am not claiming to have made an accurate conversion from power to heartrate. Is that possible? Probably, but since I work on the ‘that’s close enough principle’ it’s clsoe enough.
Thanks for the info., but I’m not looking to invest in additional equipment at this time. I do have a Cycleops SuperMagneto trainer at home in addition to riding outside. So I’m trying to find a cycling plan that I could follow/build using the tools that I currently have.
I’m interested in trying to find a plan that is more structured in nature that would tell you a prescribed workout for easy, medium and hard days and what that workout would be by time and heart rate zone.
I was not implying that you by a Computrainer. Just use the PIG program.
OK, thanks! I’m assuming the PIG program is a PC based program?
