Cycling Shoe Pain

I never had pain in my feet until I started doing indoor training with spinerval videos. Great stuff but now I’m having pain in my right foot at the base of the ball of the foot where the cleat begins. It feels as if the cleat is digging into my foot. I have dr. sholls foot pad in but it isn’t helping. I have size 13, extremely flat and overpronate feet. I’m 6’4",202. Is it my shoes or do i simply need to put in some nice arch supports? Running shoes are fine. Just cycling hurts. Also, anybody recommend any good cycling shoes with supports? Do they exist? I have 48’s, 47 is too small and the foot pad also helps to make my foot more snug. Thanks!

So often fit issues with shoes are responsible for foot problems along with poor cleat set-up. we so often see people come in for a bike fit with incorrectly fitted shoes and poorly installed and aligned cleats. the two most common problems are:

  1. Shoes too big.
  2. Cleats adjusted with too wide a stance or “Q” factor.
A new pair of shoes and a cleat adjustment take care of it usually. Impossible to tell if these things are related to your problems over the web, but food for thought for others reading this. I do wish you luck with this problem though. Happy New Year.

Might want to try a bike fit or slide your seat back more. It will take some strain off the foot.
