my cycling shoes smell unbelievably awful! i left them in a bag the past two days and now i think i may have to burn the bag. i have the sidi t2, how do i clean them or what can i do to help with the smell? i’ve tried stuffing them with newspapers, but that hasn’t made a bit of difference. is there stuff i can clean them with?
thanks!
I have the perfect thing to get rid of the odor. Go to www.88stink.com. They have this stuff called ordorzout. It works great. They have a powder that you can put in shoes that will get rid of the odor. They have a laundry additive that works great for getting odors out of towels, you just use a teaspoon in the wash and you have no more towel odor. Give it a try.
Put them in a plastic bag, and then overnight in the freezer - no smell!
Why does this work?
The bacteria gets wiped out, hence no smell!![]()
.
fill your kitchen sink with hot soapy water, and half a bottle of febreeze. soak those stank ass things in this solution for a few hours or overnight (or at least until someone in your house grows impatient and complains). then rinse them really well, and let them air dry in sun, or over a register in your house.
this cleans them!
freezing them is only a very temporary solution from my experience.
oh, you can add that stank bag to the solution as well, and follow the same protocol.
wear socks
.
When I get home in the morning from my ride, I put my shoes and helmet (upside down) on a picnic table in the direct sun in my back yard. The sun drys them off and kills all the gross stuff.
I will have to try the freezer thing. That sound interesting.
thanks, i’ll check that out.
ok, i’ll try this one when i get home tonight, then if that doesn’t work, the freezer and then i’ll try the other product.
i know this would be the solution, but i really don’t like socks and rarely ever wear them. plus, just wearing socks now isn’t going to solve the problem that my shoes already stink.
For regular offenses, use the newspaper to dry them out and stick a dryer sheet (Fabric softener) in there as well, to help get rid of the smell. In cases of exceptional stank, the hardcore soak/wash suggested or the freezer or sun bake tricks have worked for me in the past. You can also get those shoe balls, but given how much my feet perspire, I find those do little to nothing for me.
just wash them once a week as i suggested (it will work). Dawn makes an anti-smelly detergent, just use that with febreeze, they’ll be like new. not only will be better for the smell and also better for the health of your feet to get all of that crud and bacteria out of the shoes…that is some nasty shit. (not good for toenails or skin)
yeah, i find the newspapers work well if my shoes aren’t soaked, but lately with the heat in Chicago and everything, i’m finding that my shoes are soaked and are just nasty by the time i get off my bike.
will do, but do your shoes then smell like febreeze or is there an unscented febreeze? while anything would be better than what they smell like right now, i’m not sure i want my shoes to be spring fresh or whatever some of those scents are.
