Cycling shoe cleat adjustment?

I just got shoes for spin class and I’m getting pain in my right knee in the back on the right side after spinning. I know some cleat adjustment will do the trick but it’s been so long since I went thru this for my road bike shoes I forget which way to move the cleats. Any suggestions? MK

All bets are off with a spin bike. Could be many issues other than the location of your SPD cleat. You really want the cleat to have the center of the pedal under the ball of your foot - but there are so many other forces in spin class, how you ride the bike, if you let a 45lbs wheel rip and your knees and on and on that can cause issues.

In general if the back of the knee hurts you need to lower your saddle or go forward. Pain on the outside of the knee could mean that you cleat is too close to the inside of the shoe of crank arm causing the lower leg to tilt towards the bottom bracket. Neither of these are things you can really see while you are on the bike because once you move to see it you are out of your ridding position.

most “spin” bikes have WIDE bottom brackets…
