Cycling Caps (1)

Does anyone still wear these? The cool ones, not those skull cap neo-wicking things. As the weather cools down, I was thinking about trying to find one help retain a little warmth on the head and also to look very pro.

I wear em on cool days and love em.

Here’s a nice one.

I always wear them on cooler days. Perfect warmth ratio for me when the temps are between 50-40 degrees. Plusthe bill sticking out under your helmet looks sweet.

x 2 of what eastoftheborder said. On the days when it’s misty and cool, but not COLD it’s a nice balance. And before the sun really comes up on foggy mornings it can help (and I use that term very loosely) shield your eyes from the mist…very little, but it can help.

it’s got that flandrian look to it.

technically not a flandrian, but rocking one nonetheless

I wear them all the time. They’re great on the trainer too. They soak up the sweat.

Also a must for rainy days. The bill is just enough to have a shielding effect.

I wear them all the time on cool rides. I have a collection, I buy one from a local bike shop whenever I travel. My favourites are from Italy and Belgium.

I prefer mostly on hot days backwards. The sweat runs off the bill down my back rather than in my eyes.

I wear mine on every ride, sunny, rainy or not.

I still havent found a sunscreen that wont drip into my eyes (shaved head) so the hat keeps the sun off and the sweat away from my eyes

Wear one under my helemt in all but the hotest weather. The cycling cap for the ‘average’ bike rider is the most important piece of equipment you will ever own for one simple reason, it is the one, and only thing that will ever make you look like Eddy Merckx, and for that reason it is worth its weight in gold.

Every rain ride fo sho.

For rain rides and slightly cooler but not really colder rides (need something more thermal under helmet for that) I have few traditional cycling caps kicking around that I use.

For the rain, the bill helps keeping the rain off the face and in cooler weather provides just the right amount of warmth. Although they are cotton, so if it’s really colder, cotton is not the best.

Long ride on a cool day last spring:

Always!

Here’s how/why:

Totally agree about the white fizik. Stuff is easy to keep clean. It is great. I wish I could say the same thing about the white hoods.

Thanks for the great blog re: the fi’zi:k tape.

Capo makes a really well-fitting cap. The cap in their Padrone line is very minimalist, only the 'Capo" printed across the top, nothing on the bill.

I tend to ride with a cap in the cool, or in the wet to keep water off the glasses/away from the contacts.

I wear the headsweats version for every ride regardless of weather. I don’t have to put sunscreen on my face above my eyes, and the hat keeps the sweat from dripping in them. Great for wet days and hail. For commuting I also don’t arrive with a helmet head, just a slightly more preferable hat head. They are a little thicker that most traditional cycling caps. The only time I don’t use one is for racing because the bill cuts down on forward visibility when I get my head really low.
