Thats alot of data on the Joule. Would like to see how big the unit reallyis, seems little large to stick between aerobars. The Garmin 500 looks more compact, but much less Power data. Just lost my PT cervo in a road race, might as well wait for these to arrive…

Did I do the math right, that the cheaper Joule would be $645? Ouch. I wish Garmin had made the 500 look a bit less toy-like, because functionally it looks like something I would be interested in. I still have high hopes for the 310XT, but in any case more options is definitely better for the consumer.

Yeah, I sort of agree about the amount of information, but I guess we need to see if the number of data fields can be pared down or not. I would prefer to be able to make less data fields, but bigger in size.

Rather than squinting at some number in the corner, I want to be able to glance down and see the number I want quickly. The more one is staring at down at a computer, the less you are looking at the road.

Kirk Albers just posted this link to the wattage list:

Thanks for posting!

My take - I’m not that excited about it. There’s a ton of great features there, but it’s ~$600?! $450… . I don’t have much need for data analysis while riding… I’m busy riding.

The only feature that I think the little yellow one is missing is a backlight. Everything else is nice but far from necessary.

I’m still interested though. If I were to buy a Cinqo, this would definitely be the computer!

Thanks AC. That’s a nice photo for giving a size perspective. I sort of wish they would give a photo like that in the catalog. Oh well. I’m supposed to get one soon, and I will post pics ASAP. I think Garmin sort of set the standard for size with the 705. I don’t think bigger than that would have really gone over, so I was pretty sure it was no bigger than a 705.

To clarify, the MSRP is $449 U.S. (this does not include a HR strap).

With strap is $499

When will it be available in the US?

i love it. i’ve been complaining about that darn 3 line head unit ever since I got my PT. Been running a Garmin 305 watch just to have some extra data.

I hope it incorporates one touch lap button instead of the two finger death move.

If you click for the bigger picture, you’ll see they both have “Interval” buttons (aka “Lap”).

does anyone know if you can only use Joule with the newer models with ANT+ or can it be used with the wireless PT without ANT+?

will current PT users with existing CPUs have any ‘upgrade’ options to this new computer at any type of promotional pricing? maybe mail in your cervo- get x dollars off?

that would be a great idea.

Any idea if the PT wireless heart rate monitor will work with the Joule and if WKO will also work with Joule?

It does seem like you have to use the ANT+ new hubs with it and the last version of the PT wireless does not but I have to email them or if anyone who works for them can answer that would be great.

thanks

Here is a nice picture against the current Powertap computer:

I have to say I am very disappointed with the price of the Joule. It seems overpriced for what you get hardware wise. After reading all the specs I have changed my mantra of more data on the bike is better, i’m flip-floping back into the camp worship of the “little yellow computer” being enough data with the caveat that I still want average interval power.

Regardless, I look forward to your review of the unit Jordan. I’m most interested in your thoughts regarding how useful the extra data displays are for you.
