I’ve had a Fluid 2 for probably close to 10 years and had the resistance unit replaced twice because it eventually started leaking. No questions asked both times - just promptly sent me out a new unit. Bottom line is I’m pretty satisfied with the Fluid 2 but I’m looking to add another trainer so my wife and I don’t have to swap our bikes on and off all the time. The Jet Fluid Pro is only $40 more than the Fluid 2 - worth it? No need to spend an extra $40 for nothing.
I went from the Fluid 2 to the Pro and love it. It’s a bit bigger and little more quiet. The reservoir pulls in more air to keep the fluid cooler as well.
Don’t really care about how quiet it is. Does it have a different resistance feel?
My Fluid2 has also leaked twice and also replaced twice no questions asked. During one of those replacements I borrowed a Pro and used it - I don’t remember the feel being much different. Perhaps more resistance (less speed for the same power) but I can’t say for sure. I would have no problems buying one (although I prefer my KK over the two)
It is a smoother ride and feels more natural. Resistance is better as it has a different mechanism for tension than the Fluid 2.
Went through multiple Cyclops fluid units, all leaked like clockwork after a year or two. Now on a Kurt Kinetic for much longer, without issues, never looked back. Much better design, more consistent power curve, no sudden change in resistance after 10 minute warmup which is the signature Cyclops characteristic.
Funny, I’ve had a Fluid 2 for 10 years it’s never leaked and I’ve never experienced a sudden change in resistance.

Same here! No issues at all with any Cycleops unit I’ve owned.
Like anything else, it depends on use. But the basic design of the Cycleops depends on an O ring as the fluid seal, and that tends to wear out. The Kurt is completely sealed and uses a magnetic coupling. The change in resistance of the Cycleops after warmup (it suddenly gets more resistance) is well documented.
had my fluid 2 for about 5 years now, hasn’t leaked but recently a bearing went bad. The change in resistance with temperature (before the problem) is just ridiculous and was starting to really get on my nerves.
My kurt showed up friday and I did just shy of 5 hours on it over the weekend.
If I hadn’t told the GF she could use the fluid2 after it gets repaired I would just throw it out, she won’t put the power into it to have problems but I don’t think I could ever use a cycleops product again after even this little time on the KK.
There is no sudden change in resistance with mine but it gradually ramps up over 10-15min. I ride with TrainerRoad.com and have the output graph displayed while I ride. I will do my warm-up at a steady cadence in a single gear and watch the power reading gradually climb by over 30W. It doesn’t really bother me because I know what to expect but I guess it would be nice to have something that I know is stable immediately. Looks like the KK is about the same price as the Jet Fluid Pro.

I have a fluid 2 and the resistance increases dramatically at exactly two minutes. I never thought of this as an actual problem…fluid viscosity changes with temperature and since the devices is dependent on fluid I assumed this was normal (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Temperature_dependence_of_liquid_viscosity). I ride the trainer indoors in about 65-70 degrees so the warm-up is quite short. I imagine if you used and stored it in the garage where the fluid would be colder, it would take a little longer.
I am not sure it is useful to argue or complain about the cycleops vs kurt kinetic when the OP asked specifically about the difference between two different cycleops units.
Well, he did ask whether another cycleops was “worth it”…so a valid answer would be “No, but a KK is”…
He asked whether it was worth an extra $40 between the two Cycleops products
not whether neither were worth it and to buy a KK.
Although, cycleops has nothing like the KK Rock and Roll which looks cool but the price puts it into BKOOL territory and then we have a similar discussion on worth/value.
I just upgraded from the Fluid 2 to the Jet after 7 year and I say its worth it. Smoother feel and much easier to work with (the dial to set the trainer to the wheel as opposed to the lever thing that the Fluid 2 has).

Spend a little more than the jet and get the supermag pro. Superior to any fluid trainer in feel and is nearly silent and no warm up period that ALL fluid trainers experience, even the KK.
The Fluid 2 has been meeting my needs for the past 8+ years. I honestly don’t even know why I’m considering the Jet. I guess I would appreciate a “better road feel” but I need to decide if I want to spend $50 more for it.

I picked up a Jet Fluid Pro because I found an open box “like new” unit for the same price as the Fluid 2. So far I notice absolutely no difference in the feel. It’s definitely louder than my Fluid 2 though but not anything drastic. My advice to anyone who is considering these two trainers is to get whichever you can find cheaper.
Does the jet fluid pro ever go on sale?
It does go on sale sometimes. About a year and a half ago I picked a Jet Fluid Pro up for a good price. I got the training kit with the floor mat, sweat guard, and wheel risers for less than the Fluid 2 training kit.
